I'd have to go back and listen to it again, but from what I heard, each group is pretty much in order in the film. Combining them is what you want, right? I will take a listen and try to give those to you since I have seen the lousy film several times over the years. I did notice that the logo for the film company is tacked onto the front of the "Good teacher" cue. That is at the very first of the film, followed by the "Main title" guitar cue. Those are first. I will list the rest of them for you later in order. I remember where all the pieces of music are in the film along with Jack Elam's very corny lines. John.

I love Howard Hawks with an incredible passion but this film just doesn't work for me at all--though I have met fans of it.

Trust me and wait for someone to do a chronology for you rather than go to the film yourself.

Lou, this is one crappy film, my friend. Its flat out plumb poor. One funny scene though was George Plimpton as a bad guy getting killed in the saloon. John.

CF8, if you read through the "Rio Lobo -- The Music" section of the accompanying booklet, it does a pretty good job of explaining the chronological order of all the tracks.

This is the order that I come up with:

    1. 6. Main Title
    2. 1. Captured
    3. 2. New Arrival / Unexpected Gun
    4. 7. A Good Teacher
    5. 8. No Place to Go
    6. 4. Plans* / The Raid
    7. 5. The Scar / Hang on a Minute / Finale**
    8. 9. Cordona's Capture
    9. 3. A Good Teacher*** / Quiet Town / Cantina
    10. 10. The Trade / Retribution / End Title

    * called "The Plan" in the notes
** not in order - should be placed before End Title
*** partial duplicate of "A Good Teacher"

Not to take anything away from Gary Kester's efforts at reconciling the inane plot and the problematically arranged tracks, but I wouldn't say it was actually clear what goes where. The duplication of "A Good Teacher" and the separation of "Finale" from "End Title" make for a confused chronology no matter how you program the tracks.

I can only assume that it was not feasible to separate the tracks into shorter segments for some technical reason.

Pretty close to what I came up with except part of Plan is after Cordona's Capture and just before Trade. Its used in the scene where Wayne and Victor French are working their way through town. So some of the cues are separated and in different places. John.

If I'm reading the "Rio Lobo -- The Music" section of the booklet correctly, the chronological order is:

    1. Main Title
    2. Captured
    3. New Arrival
    4. Unexpected Gun
    5. A Good Teacher
    6. Quiet Town
    7. No Place to Go
    8. The Plan
    9. The Raid
    10. The Scar
    11. Hang On a Minute
    12. Cordona's Capture
    13. The Cantina
    14. The Trade
    15. Retribution
    16. Finale/End Title

The booklet seemed pretty clear to me. As Ford Thaxton explained, they made an aesthetic decision -- rightly or wrongly -- not to mix the available stereo and mono tracks together, so they put all the stereo tracks first in their chronological order, followed by the mono tracks in THEIR chronological order. But yeah, it would have been nice if they had broken both sections down into individual tracks to give us the option of re-programming them in the correct order.

Yep. If I could separate the tracks into 16 discrete cues, that is the order that I would have gotten from the notes as well.

thanx for all the info, guys..
I was a bit confused since some music seemed to be on there twice!
I painstakingly compared all the tracks and found out that Finale from Track 05 and End Titles from Track 10 are the same (one in mono the other in stereo).
Same goes for the last part of Retribution and Hang on a minute..that part is also the same on both tracks.
I made a chronologcal copy with all tracks divided into single tracks (with the exeption of New Arrival /Unexpected Gun where I coudnīt find a place that seemed to be the logical place to divide!)

Thanx again for all your info...
