I came across this CD in a used bin. It's a Decca/London release (http://www.soundtrack.net/soundtracks/database/?id=876)Has anyone heard this? Are the scores done justice? The track titles aren't very helpfull coz they seem to be suites consisting of various parts of the score (see Psycho).
Anyone? Thanks in advance

Yes, these are among the first recordings I got on him. I like them. The orchestra is good on them. Very good recordings. I had the LPs then got the CDs of these. Although most of the scores now have been done in total now, I still like these earlier recordings. I always liked the Day the Earth Stood Still and Gulliver stuff on the three different LPs that he did back then. John.

I heard the vinyl version in a library. I can recommend it. The strings pack a lot of resonant crunch in the PSYCHO suite. Although the violins are slow & wimpy in the shower-attack music. (It almost sounds like a Viennese waltz!) The VERTIGO tracks are okay. But I remember being bored by "A Portrait of Hitch".

This was the very first recorded Bernard Herrmann music that I ever owned, and it still has a special place in my heart. It's a wonderful listen, in spite of the sagging tempos that Herrmann employed.
I agree, Luscious..."Portrait of Hitch" is rather dull compared to the rest.

That's funny, Chris. I kind of like the Portrait of Hitch on there. John.
