I'll get it as soon as I see it in stores. But this time, I REALLY won't play it before I've seen the film. Same with FotR.NP: Gremlins Expanded (Jerry Goldsmith)

Kind of related, I'm a bit angry right now with Warner since they announced their recent descision to make all their family films on DVD pan & scan only. Unless Chris Columbus steps in (like Dick Donner did in stepping in at the eleventh hour ensuring Goonies DVD was widescreen), this will not bode well for any future Harry Potter DVD release. They've just royaly upset hundreds of us over at the HTF, and beyond, by announcing the upcoming Willy Wonka SE (originaly set with both anamorphic widescreen and P&S on the one disc) as P&S only, along with P&S only for Cats and Dogs too. Sad times...
Hope the score CD will be a nice lengthy release. I'll grab the UK "Philosopher" titled version.

Warner Bros? SH#T! F$#K! And the rest of it!Last time those incompetent buffoons put out a score it came out in the States on July 3, and it didn't even have a release planned for Canada.
Then there was the Pearl Harbor musical selection fiasco.
And the whole Tomb Raider track titles mess.
Remember those old stickers Sony used to put on their electronics? The ones that said "It's a Sony"? Well Harry Potter obviously won't be.
CRAP! I'm pissed.

Why do they think I bought a DVD player? Or a widescreen TV? Next time, they start sending Pan & Scan copies to the cinemas, or what? Why not make copies with aspect ratio 2:5? You'll see more of the picture, since it becomes larger vertically. Suckers.

As to the aspect ratio, I don't think Chris will want it P&Sed. I think he can pull enough weight and I think the DVD will come out fine.As for the score, I can't wait eather, but you all know that.

Crazy isnt it, Marian? Bad news for the future Iron Giant SE release likely to appear in the new year. It's the fact Willy Wonka had BOTH to begin with then had the widescreen removed prior to being pressed that bugged me. So they think P&S is better for the kids on Wonka? Great, so why give them a commentary track and retrospective documentary? The good thing on Wonka is that, thanks to our ranting, they are considering a seperate Widescreen release due to the fact that they understand the films appeal to adults who saw it as kids, but the position on future titles is unlikely to change.
As for the Philosopher/Sorcerer thing, I believe everywhere (if not, certainly most pleaces) outside the US/Canda retains the original title of Philosopher.

I think the US publisher was worried kids wouldn't know yeah. Rowling is really upset she sold out on letting them change the title, but she just wanted to get her book out. It's a shame that they could not resorting back to the original title for the movie worldwide frankly.
I'm a bit worried about the two different cuts of the movie being released, one with "sorcerer" scenes/dialogue, the other with "philosopher" scenes/dialogue. What's to say the performance or delivery of a line wont be better in one cut then it is the other. It's going to be odd, and there's little chance in hell Warner would branch the DVD to offer both.
IF the DVD was widescreen, and providing I liked the movie, I'd have to put up with the Sorcerer title due to my hate for region 2 anyway, so I shouldn't really moan over the issue since it cant be escaped.

Uh-oh Amazon has it listed as coming out Oct. 30th with music by various artrists. The John Williams message board already has some members going off about that.
God please do not let it be true......Maybe there's a possibility of 2 albums since Warner Bros will try to milk this cash machine.

It's a John Williams fantasy score. They wouldn't release an album with lots of songs and just a few score tracks. Perhaps two different albums, or one or two songs plus the score. Maybe Amazon simply assumes "it's a soundtracks, so it's by various artists" - after all, scores usually list "soundtrack" as the composer.
Even if there are songs in the movie, they wouldn't be enough to fill a CD. They could of course make a "music inspired by" album, but they surely wouldn't replace Williams score by something like that.

I personally doubt given the history between Columbus and Williams that that would happen, but remember this is Warner Bros we are dealing with here.
Sometimes the composer and director don't get complete control over a soundtrack release.I just thought it was amusing the williams message board was in a fit already.

Of course out of curiousity I went to Warner Bros. web site and it has no info what so ever. In fact it has very little soundtrack info at all.

How's about this for an annoying thing discovered too late (though I should imagine that I'll find out what the news is soon enough), from Empire Magazine
quote:
With The Philosopher's Stone in the bag and work already begun on The Chamber of Secrets, legendary composer John Williams has pulled up his music sheets and begun to put the magic notes to Harry's big screen debut. Recording of the score will take place in London over the next two weeks.More exciting perhaps, Newsround will have will be a surprise announcement about the score and CBBC's Prom in the Park on Monday (3 September). A special live rendition of Williams' Potter theme performed by the orchestra? You'll have to wait and see.
According to the Proms website the CBBC Prom in the Park is actually on Sunday the 16th at 3pm. I would guess that the concert will probably be broadcast on Mr TV. Although I wouldn't necessarily quote me on that, since I can't find any word on any broadcast (TV or Radio) on the website. Just a shame I didn't find that out an hour and a half ago, otherwise I would have watched Newsround...
Still, it's potentially quite an interesting little thing.

I can already see it clearly before me: Pan & Scan DVD with sing-along, paintable images. "Music from and inspired by" album in Potterama packaging with one shortened score track by Williams. In 10 years, the full score will come out, only to go out of print a few months later. For 20 years, it will be the most sought-after Williams album until finally someone else gets the rights and releases the score. I'll be 52 by then.

Pete: Perhaps the surprise announcement was just the release date.
