-- soundtrack CDs cost more than their respective film's DVD presentation?
-- You smash your frickin' finger in a door on the way to mail off a resume for a symphony job you won't get anyway, but pathetically hope you will, so you can pay off the damn $35 printer cartridge you needed to drive halfway across town to get just so you could print off the damn resume and requisite cover letter?

Actually I stay away from the malls when it comes to scores. The other day I was browsing through the soundtracks and couldn't believe some of the ridiculous pricing.Best Buy and Circuit City are the best bets.
I've only smashed my fingers when I was drunk, of course that was years ago.

Best Buy is where I went.malls are for teenagers.
Sad part is, I wasn't drunk and I still smashed my finger. It's all bloody and stuff.sweet.

but the cool part is that I smashed the middle finger.now I can give people an obscene gesture and have an excuse, not unlike a Seinfeld episode.
PK, where's my "the finger" icon, dammit?

Luckily around here scores go for $11.99 to $13.99 at both places. I've had to splurge and shop at Tower and Barnes & Noble a few times.Hmmm...a middle finger icon would be great.....

Well if you want to know some things I hate how about thisYour going to buy one of you favorite scores let's say episode one (just for example) and when you get to the register after an eternity of waiting because there's only one da** casher but after you get there it ends up that the price is actually higher then it says on the album. RRRGGGHH!!! It makes me made just to think about it.
Also when some used web store sends you the wrong release of a score like end of days soundtrack instead of the score.

one thing I do like:sometimes at Wherehouse I'll snag a used CD marked at 8.99 or some such, but upon the cashier scanning it, I pay $1.99 instead cuz that's what came up.
now who am I to argue with that one?

I've pretty much given up on shopping in brick and mortar stores for soundtracks.Barnes & Noble and sometimes Borders have some good stuff, but that's about it.

They have some pretty amazing stuff at that megastore in New Orleans....I picked up Jaws 2 and Heart of Darkness there, among some others. Not out-of-the-ordinary purchases, but not highly common scores, either.

I hate CD shops at malls. The people that work there are always either...
a.) ignorant
b.) patronising
c.) stupid, which though no fault of their own makes them ignorant and causes them to speak in a patronising way without realising it.posted 08-14-2001 05:06 AM PT (US)

Of course you don't HAVE to. But some stores have remote controlled doors so they can smash the middle fingers of customers who simply pay the lower price without a word.

Yes, well I usually don't shop in stores like in the mall. But there are other problems with shopping online at used stores ,which I usually try to use, (no pun intended) that I have said already.Np: The Return of the Jedi (John Williams) Anthology box set

The only thing that ever pissed me off in such a circumstance was when I went to buy a used copy of Williams' JFK. The price sticker was impossible to read, so they decided it was full price.
Needless to say, I still don't have a copy.

I found JFK "used" (actually a sealed cutout) for $5... It's a pretty crappy score, IMHO. One cue is nice, the others don't excite me. The sequencing of the tracks is horrible, too.

Jonathan Little had better be joking.JFK was the score that got me into film scores (and filmmaking in general........hey, at least it wasn't Bad Boys or The Rock). Have you seen the film, Young Mr. Little?

I like JFK, bith film and CD (score parts only; the source cues can go hang...)Re: Djangos sending me the songtracks to Set It Off and The Gift instead of the score? Well, I got that beat today. I'd ordered a used CD of John Cacavas' soundtrack to Airport 75, and they sent me....

www.djangos.comSite's not too well laid out, but their prices for used CDs are pretty good - I got JURASSIC PARK 3, MUMMY RETURNS and Elfman's PLANET OF THE APES at around $7 each. Plus, if you order more than $50 of used CDs, you don't have to pay shipping, even internationally.
My first bulk order (12 CDs, $5 each!) arrived perfectly; all discs and inlays in perfect condition. However, one CD from my second order was sent out on July 30th but has yet to materialise. From my third order, one wasn't what I ordered, a second was specifically what I didn't order and the third wasn't even a CD, despite saying "Used CD" in big letters. So I'm a little cool on commending them to anyone right now; we'll see what happens about refunds.

Well, like I said, in my humble opinion.I haven't seen the movie, so I am basing my opinion on what I've heard on the CD. I also don't like Criminal Law. I'm so sorry.

I'm happy people like it. I was just expressing what I thought of the score.
Richard, bummer regarding the Airport 75 disc... I love the theme on Intrada's Cacavas promo, and I've been debating on if I should pick up the pricy import CD.

Hmm. I never have seen JFK. But, any movie with Robert Richardson as the DOP has to be a pleasure to at least look at. Is it worth renting (widescreen of course), truly, Shaun? Defend yourself!

Unless I'm totally off my rocker, JFK was the film that started (or re-started) the whole "overlighting" that Scorsese, Spike Lee, and Singer used in Casino, Clockers, and The Usual Suspects.Just see the movie guys. You don't need me telling you how great it is. But, I'll say this again......I wouldn't be here if it weren't for JFK.

I think JFK is the only good Oliver Stone related film I've ever seen. He's over rated, as is Ridley Scott (IMHO)

speaking of Ridley Scott, I discovered a whole new loathing of his direction.
I watched a bit of Bad Girls tonight, just to hear the Goldsmith score. There is a scene early on where Drew Barrymore is riding a horse chasing a runaway wagon. Two shots of her are just exactly like a shot of Maximus riding his horse home in Gladiator.
Oliver Stone stinks in general. Natural Born Killers and Any Given Sunday are wretched films.posted 08-16-2001 10:31 PM PT (US)
