Man I looked all over for that CD, and couldn't find it. So I just had to order online.
The only CD I picked up tuesday was The Others.

I found one copy at Media Play because Best Buy had no idea why it wasn't shipped to their store. On top of that, not one store in the whole city of Toledo had a copy of Marc Shaiman's score to 61*. So I ordered it along with The Good, the Bad and the Ugly expanded release from the Moviemusic store.Anyway, the American Outlaws score is your typical Rabin soundtrack which clocks out at rough 38 minutes in length. It comes with a decent theme, lots of percussion, plenty of guitars and a sound that resembles Armageddon, THe 6th Day and Remember the Titans. It's also an enjoyable listen the whole way through. Well worth it if you liked this type of music.

I think sometimes the big stores like Best Buy and Circut City don't get a lot of Varese CDs tell about a week after they come out. Unless their big ones.--Brian

I got this one just in time and it's awesome. Rabin seems to get better and better with every single score he records.Wow, Lee you couldn't find Shaiman's 61* well I'll say you're not missing much. it's typical Shaiman, but fun. I like the Fat F**k cue LOL

Is this Texas Rangers retitled, or a different Western that Rabin is scoring. Or did I fall asleep & is this not actually a Western at all?

They're actually two seperate films, both of which Rabin is scoring.Kinda like BT doing DRIVEN and THE FAST AND THE FURIOUS, eh?

I hope he won't regurgitate the same thing on Texas Rangers.
To those who have the CD, is it worth buying? (if you're a HZ/MV fan, and not if you're a TR fan)

It's a fun album, H. It's worth the money. I dont' think Rabin recycled stuff from Texas Rangers or this one into either score. It'll probably be in the same mold, but these are two completely different westerns. I think Texas Rangers will be the bombastic of the two considering the storyline and all. By the Way, when in the heck is this movie coming out?

It's a very nice score from Rabin! :-) Probably is best with Armageddon and Remember the Titans. ;-) The love theme remind me a lot the one from Armageddon. So beautifull. It's a mix from Remember the Titans and Armageddon, with a western style added to it. ;-) Nice result. ;-) A must have for Rabin fan. ;-)posted 08-10-2001 08:36 PM PT (US)

Perfectly said Grizzly! Excellent I didn't think of the Armageddon/Remember the Titans combo. It's in same style but I didn't notice it that much. That love theme is awesome. You're dead on with that.P.O.

VERY VERY well done score! This is why Rabin remains to be my favorite composer. He took what I thought would be a bomb of a score and turned my opinion completely around with his creative themes. Excellent score to pick up for any fan.

Well after finally getting ahold of it and listening to it about 4 or 5 times at work, I can say that I'm more surprised than anything. Like Justin, I expected this to be a complete stinker... That said, it's still not all that impressive. It isn't up to par with Remember the Titans or Armageddon, more along the lines of Deep Blue Sea... It's entertaining, but much more? Not to me. A definite ***/*****, no more, no less.NP: Great Expectations (Doyle)

I'm not gonna compare a western to a sci-fi/action score, but for what it is, I think it's terrific. I didn't know *what* to expect, though I went in hoping I'd hear a ton of Rabin's signature guitar work. That's what I got, and I'm extremely pleased. For Rabin's first western, I think it's at least a 4-star effort. I mean, can anyone honestly expect more from him than this? Let's get realistic here, people.I've got to commend him for at least using Patriot-like fifes in one of the tracks. That adds a new dimension to his music I haven't heard before. He's becoming more layered, and while some might not think the best of him (composers and film music fans alike), I think he's writing good music.

Perhaps a reason I don't think too highly of the score is because it sounds so much like Rabin's other stuff. Meteor disaster sounds just like a western, which also sounds like a high school football film. His first Western? Sure... Then again, Danna's Ride With the Devil comes to mind. Wasn't that his first? I think so... It is far better than this one. Still, I do enjoy the score and can take it for what it is.[Message edited by Hasta on 08-12-2001]

It is far better than this oneSure it was Danna's first western, but comparing Danna to Rabin is like comparing Silvestri to Zimmer. What's the point? Rabin will never compose anything as "good" as Danna's Ride with the Devil (good being a completely subjective word). That's like asking Vincent Van Gogh to paint a Monet.

I'll be interested in comparing Rangers with Outlaws, just to see what he does differently. If they end up looking like twin brothers, then I won't have a problem criticizing them.
