    No, really. Timeline.

Great book by Michael Crichton. Good stuff. Richard Donner was recently named director of the movie adaptation....which means the composer is...anyone's guess. I don't like speculation at this point. So, all I will say is--I really liked Ladyhawke. Still do, actually. And Kamen did some of his best work with Robin Hood...s'all...

[note: the horrors of being an English major....re-editing your work. a lot. know when to break the rules, but don't leave any glaring grammatical mistakes...aargh.]

I could have mentioned anyone, but i get the feeling this is a job for Jerry Goldsmith.

Well, it's not secret that Crichton admires Goldsmith's music, but since he isn't directing this, he might not have to say much on that subject. But of course, without Donner, we wouldn't have some of Goldsmith's best scores, either.

Donner? Kamen very likely! Don't want Williams, but Goldsmith will give us Gold!
Gee...I could just hear the synth now.
Ohkay here's a challenge: let's say that the movie is to be scored by Goldsmith, let's guess how he might score it...
I would think of something akin to Hollow Man (for the lab scenes) some First Knight/13th Warrior-ish material for the medieval stuff.
OOOh I'm excited. Let's hope for Gold! It's GOLD! JERRY! PURE GOLD!!!

PS how about Gavin Greenaway. His stuff for the Disney parade should have convinced alot of people about his ability. Too bad he's not interested in doing film.

Michael Kamen is the only composer Donner has consistently worked with multiple times.

Donner only worked with Williams on SUPERMAN, and Goldsmith on THE OMEN - so he might as well consider Elfman (SCROOGED) or Grusin (GOONIES) or Zimmer (RADIO FLYER) or Randy Newman (MAVERICK) or Burwell (CONSPIRACY THEORY) or Mancina (ASSASSINS) for the part as well. Of course, it's just waaaaay too soon to guess as to who might score it.

What does "it's way to soon to guess" mean? I thought guessing something was like predicting something without sufficient information. Do we need more insufficient information?

Well, it can't be Williams, Spielberg has him for like the next 2 years. Can't be Elfman, by the time that movie goes into production, Danny will be scoring Planet of the apes 2. I would like it to be Goldsmith, but he will probably be tied up with something. It'll probably go to like Silvestri, or Revell.

Actually, I thought Timeline was one of the worst books that Crichton has ever written.

Just my humble opinion. Maybe the movie can be a bit better. (Laugh!)

Jonathan, I agree. I thought TIMELINE was one of the worst Crichton books I've read, and was disappointed that they decided to make this one into a film before AIRFRAME.

    Oh well.

    Airframe?
Wasn't it supposed to have been helmed by John McTiernan couple of year ago. It certainly would have been a good thriller to watch

Not sure who'd score this one best, but Bill Brown's music from the Crichton-based game is excellent!

Check it out (right click and choose "Save As" or "Save Target As"):
    01. Timeline Main Title
    02. Machine Room
    03. Searching for Darkness
    04. The Attack
    05. The Missing Link
    06. LaRoque Action

I have only my dissenting opinion on the book, that is I liked it. It would make a better movie than Airframe would. Don't get me wrong, I thought Airframe was one of Crichton's best, but filmically speaking, the screenplay could never effectively capture the ending and make it be enough of a payoff for the audience and still not have it feel like it was a dismissable attempt to have an "action" ending for everyone else while all this suspense was being built up. A totally different movie and authored book had the same problem where truthfully everything the audience was waiting for came at the last 20 minutes and even then it wasn't enough: Clint Eastwood's Firefox. The book was supposedly better (aren't they always) and the film just didn't effectively give the ample excitement needed. Same problem with Airframe- you need one hell of a screenwriter to give the script a balance that will be very effective for the audience to really get into it. There were a lot of people who dismissed the book as being much ado about nothing in the Commercial Airline industry- when the reality the book was pretty accurate about the unions, the QA, the corporate decisions, the industrial espionage, etc. Timeline offered some wonderful action and chase, as well as another theory about time travel that I'm excited to try to understand more about.

Oh God not Revell!! he has stolen to many scoring oppurtunitys away from people and done lousy jobs at them.

Silvestri? It seem like Silvestri gets all the time machine films he may be doing the Time Machine with Gore Verbinski and he's also done all of the Bak to the Future films. But what the heck woo hoo alright let's go. Goldsmith? I would doubt it becuase Donner hasn't worked with him in the last twenty years. Same thing with Williams although I would love it if he was able to do it. Kamen? Alright he'd do a good job.

I'll tell you somebody who'd do a great job to it Basil Poledouris of course this is just a mere dream he would do a good job to it though.

I actually made a bootleg of Brown's music from Timeline. If you buy the game, which is fairly cheap by now, all of the in game music is easily available. The music files are in mp3 format in their own folder after you install the game, at least they were when the game first came out, they may have fixed that by now. Then again, theyre so easy to get and are such a good quality that it's almost like Mr. Brown wanted some to have his music, those that looked for it anyway. My disc has a running time of 32:32 with 23 tracks which are :
    1. Main Title
    2. Observation Point
    3. Into Castlegrad
    4. The Village
    5. Village Stealth
    6. The Inn at Castlegrad
    7. Into the Apartments
    8. Apartment Stealth
    9. Stinger 1
    10. Stinger 2
    11. Stinger 3
    12. Stinger 4
    13. Stinger 5
    14. La Roque
    15. The Green Chapel
    16. Legend of the Green Knight
    17. The Underground River
    18. River Trip
    19. Rescuing the Professor
    20. Rescuing the Professor (ver. 2)
    21. Village Under Siege
    22. Victory
    23. End Credits

Overall the score is REALLY cool for a game, but his score for Clive Barkers Undying is much better. If you've read the book you should give the game a shot, it's really easy and way too short but it definately lets you explore all the locations in the book which is pretty cool. Besides that, you get the great music.

    Rich D.

Agreed - I love the stuff he did for that game!!

Some of his Rainbow Six stuff is a bit too "mediaventurish" for me, but I enjoy his work overall.

Undying is some great work. I currently was able to get just over 10 minutes of score from the game! That is not including the trailer music for the game I got separate. Hopefully, I'll get some more.

Currently, I am working on a personal "Unofficial Bill Brown Tribute Disk" with selections from: Undying, Rainbow Six, Urban Operations, Rogue Spear, Timeline, Jurassic Park: Trespasser, Quake II, Shadow Watch, and a couple other titles. The disc will run just over 80 minutes.
