Topic: Question About Star Wars Trilogy Score Releases

I checked the prices at amazon for the two releases (slimline and the jewel cases). I noticed that the slimline ones are well in stock and cost less than the ones in jewel cases. Why is this? I thought the slimline packaged ones were rarer, so shouldn't the slimline ones cost more?

If the slimline versions are those in the "booklet-style" case, they're the limited versions and should indeed be more expensive than the normal jewel case versions.NP: Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart: Requiem (Tomowa-Sintow, Müller-Molinari, Cole, Burchuladze; Vienna Philharmonic, Herbert von Karajan)

Between you two guys, it's impossible to twist the ideas around any more (this is where whomever is touching the most colored spots on the game mat wins). The versions in the slimline (plastic) jewel cases are what continue to be made. Not as expensive.
The versions not in slimline (the booklet-syle packaging) have etched discs and are from a limited production run (although "limited" in this case outnumbers the "maximum" number an average score will usually sell). More expensive.

Yeah! Though, like The Lost World: Jurassic Park's Dinorama packaging, they are completely worthless. Wouldn't you know it, you are paying more for something that isn't really worth it.
Sheesh, I have gone through multiple copies of the special edition discs, because in my experience, I can only find the limited run version! Awful packaging! While, the ultimate edition of TPM had somewhat better packaging, it too isn't all that great!
Anymore these days, I will not pick up a album if they are used, except on occasion. Since, chances are good I will just need to re-purchase them eventually anyway. When will they learn!

Sabbey: I love the booklet-style cases. Better than the "Ultimate Edition" case. Better than those stupid "deluxe packaging" cases. It IS annoying that the discs do get scratched after some time, this is where they should have thought of a better solution. Still, I rate the booklet cases right behind the Ben Hur "book" as 2nd best CD packaging I've seen.posted 08-03-2001 06:16 AM PT (US)

I just removed the disks from the "booklet" editons and put them in spare jewel cases when I first got them. Based on what's been said on this thread, I'm glad I did.Chris Harben

Marian, I'm sorry. I thought that slimline referred to the booklet style packaging. So I guess I was wrong after all. Sorry for all this confusion.

Atlantic Beach, FLYeah, I did the same thing. Maybe I have just been extremely unlucky. Since, even then the copies I had were already worse off then any other disc I have in my collection, new or used!

Oh well, next time I need to get a copy of the music, I will not do so, unless I can get the slimline versions. Truthfully, maybe I am just anal, I don't like those much better either.

No CD tray, means it goes to the top of my list of pure crap packaging.

IMO, the only good ones are standard jewel cases and the "double" jewel case that was commonplace before the slimline cases were being used. Still though, all have drawbacks. For a example, I don't like the fact there are those slots on the spine of the jewel case, where the tabs for holding the art are. They make it too easy to let dust particles in, and over time make for dirty CD'. Yes, my anal-retentiveness knows no bounds!

BTW, if the Ben-Hur set is anything like the SW:SE sets, I am glad I have passed on it!

Perfection, ain't it a bitch?!

The Star Wars special editions still come from the time when the slim 2CD jewel cases broke after a few days. They're fine now, but a few years ago, I loathed them. I originally had the jewel case version of Empire Strikes back, but gave it to a friend when I found the limited edition a few weeks later - and the jewel case was already broken.Regarding the "naps" on jewel cases: My main complaint is that they make it very difficult to get the booklet out without damaging it. The only good ones are the vertical, "bar-shaped" ones. It's still difficult to get the booklet out, but at least they don't damage it when you just carry the case.
The Ben Hur case is like the SW:SE sets, but with standard plastic thingies that hold the CDs, like in the standard jewel cases and deluxe packaging cases.

As long as it is not those cheapo cardboard sleeves that remind me of the ones sample discs come in. Totally cheap looking and makes me rather pissed off to whoever was the genius that designed the freaking case!

I'll probably get Ben-Hur eventually, but I just wish that such sets were more carefully thought out in the future. I know I am anal and all, but I think when designing these things, the first thing to look into is the amount of protection for the CD, not how well it will look. Maybe it's just me!

I guess I'm the only one who has hasn't a problem with the original book covers for the Special Editions. My cds are still in great shape.
