Keeping track of upcoming movies is difficult enough...but keeping track of who will be scoring them is even more difficult.

What's your feedback on the following films...are you happy with the choices we know about, and who would you choose for the ones we don't?

Alexander the Great...a historical epic to be directed by Christopher McQuarrie...somehow I don't see Ottman fitting for this film.
    My vote: Zimmer (Gladiator vein)

Below...sounds like a campy WWII submarine thriller with monsters and David Twohy directing...we'll probably get Graeme Revell
My vote: Jerry Goldmsith (think Deep Rising)

Cat in the Hat...who knows--supposedly has Tim Allen attached with Brian Grazer producing
    My vote: Horner...Grinch 2 anyone???

Cold Mountain...decent and different Civil War story, needs an understated yet poignant score.
    My vote: Morricone

Dreadnought...strange premise...a new government super ship shoots down a commercial jetliner. Political/military thriller...hmmmm...
    My vote: Horner or Goldsmith

    Ghost Rider...whatever...Blade production team.
    My vote: Goldenthal

Insomnia...Pacino and Robin Williams in a weird film by Chistopher Nolan (Memento)
My vote: Christopher Young (but it will probably get the guy who did the odd music for Mememto.

Road to Perdition...all star cast...Sam Mendes...Thomas Newman will most likely be attached.
My vote: Something in the vein of Shawshank and Green Mile would fit me fine.

Reign of Fire...how's this for weird Matthew McHauhna (whatever) and Christian Bale fighting dragons in post-apocalyptic europe...riiight!
    My vote: Jerry Goldsmith

    Scorpion King...sounds horrid.
My vote: Silversti...at least make the score worthwhile

Star Trek X...lot of discussion about this..we'll see
    My vote: David Arnold

    X-Men II...probably Kamen again.
    My vote: Goldsmith

And the ones we know or are fairly sure about:
    LOTR: Two Towers...Shore
    Matrix Reloaded...Davis
Harry Potter: Chamber of Secrets: Williams
    Men in Black 2: Elfman
    Black Hawk Down: Zimmer
    Minority Report: Williams
    Star Wars Episode 2: Duh...

I love this type of premature speculation.

    Ok, let's see...

"Alexander the Great...a historical epic to be directed by Christopher McQuarrie...somehow I don't see Ottman fitting for this film.
    My vote: Zimmer (Gladiator vein)"
hmmm... no thanks. I'll take Christopher Stone for this one.

    "Below...we'll probably get Graeme Revell
My vote: Jerry Goldmsith (think Deep Rising)"
    Revell's fine by me.

"Cat in the Hat... My vote: Horner...Grinch 2 anyone???"
    Couldn't care less.

    "Cold Mountain...
    My vote: Morricone"
    Fine by me.

    "Dreadnought...
    My vote: Horner or Goldsmith"
    My first choice: William Ross.

    "Ghost Rider...whatever...Blade production team.
    My vote: Goldenthal"
Goldenthal could do it. But I'd prefer someone else. John Debney for one.

"Insomnia...My vote: Christopher Young (but it will probably get the guy who did the odd music for Mememto."
    Let's say... Craig Armstrong.

"Road to Perdition...all star cast...Sam Mendes...Thomas Newman will most likely be attached.
My vote: Something in the vein of Shawshank and Green Mile would fit me fine."
    Newman's fine.

"Reign of Fire...how's this for weird Matthew McHauhna (whatever) and Christian Bale fighting dragons in post-apocalyptic europe...riiight!
    My vote: Jerry Goldsmith"
Can I have Daniel Licht score this one?

    "Scorpion King...sounds horrid.
My vote: Silversti...at least make the score worthwhile"
Or how about Daniel Licht for this one too?

"Star Trek X...lot of discussion about this..we'll see
    My vote: David Arnold"
    Arnold would be nice.

    "X-Men II...probably Kamen again.
    My vote: Goldsmith"
    I'd prefer Kamen again.

    "Men in Black 2: Elfman"
    I'll take Trevor Rabin.

    "Black Hawk Down: Zimmer"
    whatever.

    "Minority Report: Williams"
    guess so.

    "Star Wars Episode 2: Duh..."
Duh? I believe his name is Dun.

Spider Man: Christopher Stone would be nice.
Or William Ross. Or Mark Watters.

    My vote: Zimmer (Gladiator vein)

Ridley Scott has a similar movie in the work. Expect Zimmer to be in that movie, not this one.

Below...sounds like a campy WWII submarine thriller with monsters and David Twohy directing...we'll probably get Graeme Revell
My vote: Jerry Goldmsith (think Deep Rising)

Both are good choices, THOUGH, with consideration to Revell and Twohy's Pitch Black, I'd like to see them team up again.

Cat in the Hat...who knows--supposedly has Tim Allen attached with Brian Grazer producing
    My vote: Horner...Grinch 2 anyone???

Pshaww, I don't care. Haven't seen the first one either.

Cold Mountain...decent and different Civil War story, needs an understated yet poignant score.
    My vote: Morricone

Morricone makes everything seems better than it is.

Dreadnought...strange premise...a new government super ship shoots down a commercial jetliner. Political/military thriller...hmmmm...
    My vote: Horner or Goldsmith

I'm thinking Gavin Greenaway for his first project.

    Ghost Rider...whatever...Blade production team.
    My vote: Goldenthal

    Don Davis is good

Insomnia...Pacino and Robin Williams in a weird film by Chistopher Nolan (Memento)
My vote: Christopher Young (but it will probably get the guy who did the odd music for Mememto.

    Don Davis or Young.

Road to Perdition...all star cast...Sam Mendes...Thomas Newman will most likely be attached.
My vote: Something in the vein of Shawshank and Green Mile would fit me fine.

Eh, same sound all over again.

Reign of Fire...how's this for weird Matthew McHauhna (whatever) and Christian Bale fighting dragons in post-apocalyptic europe...riiight!
    My vote: Jerry Goldsmith

YUP!!! Goldsmith always do good medieval tales (First Knight, Wind and the Lion Blah blah)

    Scorpion King...sounds horrid.
My vote: Silversti...at least make the score worthwhile

    Sure

Star Trek X...lot of discussion about this..we'll see
    My vote: David Arnold

Won't happen, it'll be too bombastic and actiony for the producers.

    X-Men II...probably Kamen again.
    My vote: Goldsmith

If Kamen remains, I want a further development of the X-fanfare.

And the ones we know or are fairly sure about:
LOTR: Two Towers...Shore (Cool! It'll be interesting

Matrix Reloaded...Davis (Love the first one, expect more!)

Harry Potter: Chamber of Secrets: Williams (Eh! Not a fan, but will go with girlfriend to see it though)

Men in Black 2: Elfman (YES!!! GOOD!)

    Black Hawk Down: Zimmer (Excellent!!!)

    Minority Report: Williams (not surprise)

Star Wars Episode 2: Duh... (blah blah blah, Star Wars is over played and overrated! Something better?)

Ummm.... this one isn't even really under debate.

    It's John Ottman.

The only issue right now is whether he is just scoring the film, or scoring AND editing it.

Actually, I'd venture to say that Fiedel's involvement in that film is far from certain.

Your tellin' me there is already another Harry Potter film planned for release next year? I don't think Williams can squeeze another film in his already overbooked (for him) schedule).

Fiedel, Dan will be apart of T3 somehow and no one else would probably be able to score this film after all he knows this series inside and out. So I wouldn't count him out just yet. Horner isn't scoring Sum of All Fears right now it's undertermind at the moment.

The second Harry Potter probably wouldn't be for another couple of years, but who knows nowadays.

    I never "counted him out".

I just said it wasn't certain. (You like to talk in absolutes. But unless Fiedel has been SIGNED to the project, don't say he's definitely doing it.)

Elfman knew the "Batman" series "inside and out" - and yet Goldenthal took over when there was a shift.

Barry knew the "Bond" series "inside and out" - and yet MANY other composers took over.

Williams knew the "Jurassic Park" series "inside and out" - and yet David took over.

You see, there is no such thing as a "sure thing".

I'm wondering, Quill, if the movie Insomnia that you mentioned is based on the Stephen King novel?

Glad to see Cold Mountain being made into a movie. What a powerful epic novel. Morricone would be fine. Others that could score the emotional core of this novel would be Doyle, Goldsmith, Williams, or Bernstein.

    Joan,
Not sure about that. It's being directed by Christopher Nolan (Memento) and its starring Al Pacino and Robin Williams.

Pacino is a cop who accidentally kills his partner while investigating a murder in some small town. Williams plays a homicidal wacko who knows about it. I believe Hilary Swank plays the small town cop who's onto Pacino.

Sounds interesting...I've never read Insomnia ...does that sound anything vaguely like the story?

Insomnia (2002) is a remake of Insomnia(1997), a Norwegian film:
    http://us.imdb.com/Details?0119375

I could swear I talked with someone who was involved in the film (and might have been scoring it) but I can't remember who it was....

Thanks for the additional info Dan. Let's see if Nolan wasn't a one-time wonder...with this cast it would be hard to screw it up.

As far as the score goes...I can't even remember the name of the gent who scored Memento. I'm sure you can help with that one too.
