And regarding your idea of me being "jealous" of you: In NO WAY am I jealous of you, or anyone else on this forum. As a matter of fact, for all I care, you can take all those CDs of yours...shine them up real nice...turn them sumbitches sideways, and stick them straight up your candy ass!Mike

In what way? I haven't seen the film, and have only listened to the album once so far, but it doesn't sound very experimental to me. If anything it comes across as a mixture of Elfman and Arnold's Bond electronica!

It is very good IMO, and something a bit out of the norm for Elfman. Though, that is about it!

Well, Sean, different ears, I guess. I just thought it was more experimental than what we get on average... more experimental, for instance, than if Alan Silvestri had scored the film (not that a score by Silvestri would be bad, just more predictable). It wasn't nearly as experimental as Goldsmith's score, but it's certainly not typical, either.Again, not as experimental as the original, but I'd still use the same adjective. But I'm sure you and others will prove me wrong soon, so I'll just go hide in a corner like some apes I know...

And I'm sorry I don't hear Bond electronica in it.
Either way, Sean, we both agree that it's good.

I'm not siding with anybody here, but I just wanted the mention that the CD-Text feature on most newer Sony CDs lists the "Main Title Deconstruction" as being either "End Titles" or "End Credits." One of the two.Shaun

Yeah, it is. As for it being like Bond, not really. It just gave me a Bond-like vibe, while I listened to it. I would wager, as I listen to it more, my thoughts of it will change. It was just my first perspective of it all!

I will say, in a way it is experimental. For Elfman, yes! For film music in general, no!

Oh well, it definitely has a lot going on. Knowing me, it most likely went over my head!

Wow... with all the sh*t being slung around this thread, I'm amazed I'm not a part of it yet.I do have one thing to contribute, though... the reports of Dan Goldwasser's gigantic ego are highly exagerrated. He's actually a very personable (and yes, knowledgable) fella. Unlike some people around here, I tend to enjoy conversing with someone who knows what they are talking about. There's a nice balance... sometimes you have the scoop on something, sometimes he does. Big deal. It's all about sharing the information anyways, isn't it? And Dan has consistently been more than gracious about keeping the board up to date on tons of things.
I, like Dan, would personally chalk most of these ugly accusations up to other people's petty jealousy.

Hey all, let's give it a rest. If everyone really needs to know, I am the most jealous person on this board. I am full of petty jealousies. No one compares with me, so don't even think about using the word "jealous" unless you use "FishChip" at the same time.Ok, now that's all taken care of, let's try talking about this score on a new thread. This thread's a friggin' joke, and a total waste. New thread, new discussion... sound good?

I think "Planet of the Apes" is possibly the greatest film of the year so far.*spoiler*
I did like the ending. It was mind blowing and such an unfair end for our hero Leo Davidson. It reminded so much of the original Army of Darkness ending. It was dark and unfair, it wasn't at all what you wanted or expected to happen.... I like endings like that though becuase it's what sets the film apart from the typical.[Message edited by Dylan on 07-29-2001]

I agree with Dylan...while I still prefer Final Fantasy this is near the top of my list.If you break the film down you will find most of the elements or a more than satisfying movie. If we take a step back and do not rate it by the following parameters:
1) How does it compare to the original?
2) Is it groundbreaking sci-fi?Some people just didn't go for the story and that's going to happen. But it some very good acting...from the ape-folk, good action and great visuals.
A good movie that carries a lot of baggage.
