    Hello,

For all who would like to hear longer and/ or other samples of tracks from Elfman's new score "Apes" coming this Tuesday go to http://elfman.filmmusic.com
I'm listening to a sample right now (the samples, so far, have ranged from 1 minute to 2 minutes so far) and it's the goodness

    Ow my GOD!

    This is so DAMN GOOD!
Kudos to Elfman! The main titles are so powerfull they readily pull you into the movie. I had my doubts about this remake but Elfman's score seems to bring them down a bit.

My main concern is that the ape-people are styled sweeter than the original.....

Elfman did his research on the Goldsmith score.... adding his own orchestral touches here and there.... BUT POTA-Jerry Goldsmith will be my one and original..

    Question....
Because of the studio execs quarrel with the "style" of the music, do you think will be having an isolated score and alternate cues on the DVD?

For numerous reasons (namely legal) Fox decided to abolish isolated scores a while ago on their DVDs, so the answer is no.

Trust me to be away for the weekend on a PC with no speakers. I can't say I have any interest in the movie but the score has my curiosity. I will check back with my thoughts on these clips when I get home tomorrow.

Its alot of acoustic brass with sampled percussion layers. Reminds me of DARK CITY except that the samples are more ethnic and jungle sounding. Makes this dense, tense sound which will likely work well in the action sences. Techno-Symph music is a way to "hip-up" the orchestra. Its influences seem to stem from the club/pop world and of course were cannabilized by MV and other synth wielders who came to Hollywood and became accessible to the directors & producers.

The question is going to become whether the music becomes time-stamped or not. Do you any of you feel Goldsmith's use of some of his synth work in his 80s scores dates it all? Do you at times feel pulled out or do you still feel pulled in?
