The word is that Berman and Paramount are going to Media Ventures to score the next Star Trek film....Desperate for information that you have no way to prove? Anxious to lash out at unsubstantiated claims you have no control over? Look no further than the message boards....

Media Ventures is getting annoying. Too much of a good thing can do that sometimes. And though I like most MV style scores, I'm getting very tired of seeing MV everywhere.

I think Jerry will do it also, I can't see Zimmer and co doing a "Trek" score.--Bri

Heck, people already want to string up Berman and Co. for what they've done. This would put them over the edge.Still, with Berman's lack of knowledge/taste of most things musical, it wouldn't suprise me.

There is razor-thin humor in this, but for some you need a mallet....

I know some folks around here think I'm a pretty humorless prick, but this is a cynical fabrication brought you via my own sardonic wit, induced by heated mass-ramblings over soundtracks that haven't even been released or recorded yet, (Planet of the Apes, Enterprise) and thus lead people to pre-judical opinions on the (as of yet) unheard outcome....

But even if you've heard it, you still can't pass judgment. You have to see the music as it was intended before any judgment can be made. Yet, I wonder why so many companies release movie music without the movie. Now that I think about it, the record labels are the cause of all of this pre-judgmental chaos that's gripping our community....

PeterK, it's rare, but when it happens, it's like gold! I am in 100% TOTAL agreement with you.A score is written FOR THE FILM.
Judging it simply by listening to the album without having seen the film is completely removing it from the context in which it was written.
While many times I can't see the film before reviewing the score (and I HATE it when that happens), I try my hardest to see the film and (therefore) hear the score in context BEFORE reviewing the album.
Sure people review scores without seeing the films, and say that they're reviewing it as a "listening experience" - and that's all fine and good. But it kinda defeats the whole point of the music's existence - it was written for the film.
Some scores might sound awful on CD. Just terrible. But in the film, it might work exceptionally well. But you also might find that a CD that you thought was awful takes on new context and meaning after seeing the film - and then you LOVE the CD. (Go figure!)
So, while I've heard PLANET OF THE APES, I'm NOT going to run and review it (like some people did) UNTIL I see the film. Same went for JURASSIC PARK III and FINAL FANTASY. That said, think what you will about the CD as a purely "listening" experience - but don't rag on the score until you've heard it in the context of the film for which it was written.

Dammit, I guess my sarcasm didn't register. I thought this thread was about sarcasm. Lancelot, can you help me out here?

Except its often better NOT to see the movie. There are cases when the movie is so bad, seeing it will ruin the listening experience of the score.
