I personally believe that Joel McNeely is a very underrated composer.I love his scores(remember:Flipper,Gold Diggers,Iron Will etc).Although the composer is very influenced by his mentor(John Williams),his work still manages to be quite original and highly enjoyable.
Other new composers such as Cliff Eidelman and Marco Beltrami have somehow managed to establish themselves in the film scoring industry.I just get the feeling that McNeely is somehow left behind.
Do you guys have any information about McNeely's future plans?

    Thanx,
    KS

    NP:Beauty and the Beast-Alan Menken,Howard Ashman.

Well, Joel recently did the SALLY HEMINGS miniseries (a great Varese release) and has a website coming soon.... once it's up, I'm sure you'll be able to find out all about what he's up to!

And do you really consider Cliff Eidelman to be a "new" composer? He's been working for over 10 years in the "biz"....

Everyone disses McNeely, but I think he's a fine conductor, did a great score for the abominable THE AVENGERS(the Chapter III album is fun!) and is much better than other current hacks, who I will not name to avoid hurting people's feelings.

By the way SALLY HEMMINGS was a Prometheus release, while LOVER'S PRAYER was on Varese

    NP:VAMP(Jonathan Elias)

    Lover's Prayer is great.

no too enthralled about the rest of his output, but then again, I haven't heard everything he's written.

How about the 'rejected' ideas for VIRUS? I like the current album when I'm in the mood for mindless bombast, but I hear he wrote some pretty cool atonal orch/choral stuff that was rejected by useless filmmakers(Hi John Bruno!).

Too bad we can't hear that score...

NP: Excessive Force(Bernstein) this is actually pretty good, one of the last Bay Cities albums. It's like HEAT JR.(Goldenthal)

Yes! That is one of the great cues I was thinking of! Try driving 100MPH to that cue

Try it? I've done it! Most expensive CD I've ever bought, if I include the cost of the speeding ticket...

not to turn this into a:

'what have you gotten a ticket for driving to fast too?' thread,

but, irony of ironies, I got stopped playing 'Sea at Night' from KING KONG(Steiner)once....it was late, I was tired, wanted to get home, and was 'coming off' the main title

Then I did get rear-ended once while listening to 'The Treatment' from TOTAL RECALL,but that wasn't my fault....

Sorry, I digress, and you have my condolences Dan!

Matt, I forgot to highly recommend SHADOWS OF THE EMPIRE the Varese/Star Wars album.

FSM panned the hell out of it, but I think it's terrific. Great choral cues, heavy action, good liner notes. I like it

NP:Ronin(Cmiral)If Se7en were an action score....

Ouch! Sean, perhaps you would do best not to listen to film music while driving!
