    where did you hear this?

anyway, it's not entirely inconceivable that they'd commission Williams this early to compose a fanfare. Seems like he's getting busier lately, so why not try now?

I was thinking about this at the concert. Why don't they ever get someone ELSE to compose fanfares for the Olympics (I know that Poledouris has done it, I'm talking about the fanfares that run 24/7 during the telecasts)?

And how would we know for sure since noone else has ever been given the chance? I wouldn't mind hearing someone else's interpretation. Goldsmith would, indeed, be great to hear.

If Goldsmith did an Olympic fanfare, 20 bucks says it would start out with or prominently feature the U.S. Marshals motif.

Well.... Basil Poledouris did a piece for the Opening Games ceremony at the 1996 Barcelona Games.....

But you're referring to a "theme" for television use, right?

If Goldsmith did it, it would probably sounds suspiciously like his "Fanfare for Oscar", which was missing from this year's ceremony....

The Barcelona Games took place in 1992. I forgot which city hosted the 1996 Olympics...

Hey! Goldsmith's Pizza Hut commercial ranks with his one-minute Judge Dredd trailer music as the finest piece of music composed during the 20th Century.

Actually a number of composers have written music for recent Olympics including Philip Glass, Bill Conti, and Ryuichi Sakamoto.
