I was recently waching The Mummy and my brother (who is a huge Goldsmith fan) said that Goldsmith's effort is superior to Silvestri's. I am a huge Silvestri fan and of course said that Silvestri's is superior. Now I don't want to bord in a prime exaple of brotherly love but your guys opinion which is better? I myself of course goes for The Mummy Returns.Np: The Mummy Returns *****/*****

It's close because I think they are wonderful companion pieces but I still think Goldsmith's is the more interesting and disctinctive score, therefore I prefer it. But as I've said many times before at this forum it's a matter of taste. The two scores are very evenly matched. As it is, The Mummy is a powerful work and I can only wonder what it would have been if Goldsmith had truly cared about the movie itself.[Message edited by HAL 2000 on 07-16-2001]

Goldsmith and Silvestri are two of my favorites...so my opinion is not based on personal bias. I've said before that both scores are excellent, and work perfectly in their respective films. As a listening experience... I prefer The Mummy Returns. I'll stand my ground...I'm not afraid...

Why do we have to come down on one side or the other? It's not a contest, you realize.....

The Mummy by Jerry Goldsmith is one of the most powerful film scores I've heard. Returns, for me, doesn't come close. Returns is good though, but not as good.

Returns is a fantastic 'busy' score, but The Mummy has a special character that stands out a bit more to my ears.

NEITHERThey both suck and are cheasy as hell. If you dig the cheese, get some crackers and eat away, but I hate it.

Why do we have to fall down on one side or another? Heck I don't know I'm just curious to see which score is more apreciated. And if you don't want to fall into one of the categories then fon't post on this thread.Np: The Mummy (Good but not nearly as good as The Mummy Returns)

Timmer makes a damn fine point, but of the two recent ones, I'd come down on the Goldsmith side every time...NP Bond Back in Action 2

It depends...maybe there isn't a better one than the other. That's where our opinions come in. I, myself, can't really say which one I like better, except that I was disappointed that on the first one there wasn't the music where the plane sinks into the sand. But I really loved the Med-Jai Warriors track on the second, so.....

I enjoy Goldsmith's score much more. There's not much competition to me (though there shouldn't be anyway.)
