Arlington Rd. - Don't have it. Don't care for it.Ed Wood - It's in the mail for me even as we speak.
Judge Dredd - Get it. Now! One of Silvestri's best. Just listen to "Judgment Day" and you'll be hooked.

Get Ed Wood, you won't regret it! Howard Shore kicks ass. I second Judge Dredd, that's awesome too!

Judge Dredd...killer album, highly recommended. SO much better than Mummy 2Ed Wood....also great cd, fun source scoring, menacing 50's brass and theremin, Philadelphia-esque dramatic cues, soft strings and winds, minor dialogue enhances certain cues. Bravo! Shore does rule!

Arlington Road you have to be in the mood for, but I like it quite a bit.The frenetic opening music is bone-chilling, and the rest seems to be more pastoral than I remembered in the film. oh well.
Definitely check it out if you're a fan of Badalamenti (and find the CD used).
Ed Wood is one of the great 1990's scores.

Judge DreddBe careful you don't let Blockade War run on repeat loop for days. Highly recommended.
Ed Wood
Howard Shore in light accessible mode, highly recommended as well. One of the very few albums where the dialogue (only a few times) really is a good thing. Pull the string! Pull the string!

Is it thematic?
Is it techno in part? Since there's an additional composer with a keyboard of some sortposted 07-02-2001 03:01 PM PT (US)

re: Arlington Road:tomandandy is the other composer. not sure what this person or people worked on, but it can't have been much. It's not exactly "easy" music in places, but there some more "pleasant" pieces on the CD, from what I recall.
is it techno? eh, I think just the first track is about as techno as it gets.
There are synths involved in much of the music, but it's good use of synths. If you like Revell or God forbid, Zimmer synths, then you shouldn't have a problem with the CD.I haven't been able to find my CD to use as reference, so I have to go on my admittedly sketchy memory; sorry dude.
It's not that bad at all, and I think it slightly underrated.
all I will say though, is that Badalementi knows how to use the synths and orchestra in a way that puts Zimmer to shame.
like I say, try to not spend too much on it, if you're unsure....and I doubt I've helped sell you on the CD all that much.

Ahhhh, gotcha! Didn't know Barnaby was a new find for you...isn't that TV suite great? I first heard it on the MFM/Philharmonia cd 4 years ago, and love the concert versions...the ost's are quite different, but only in scale

I remember hating Arlington Road in the film. Great film, but I just couldn't reconcile the score. I kept thinking "what the heck is this? It doesn't fit at all!"
"Mission To Mars" type inappropriate.'Course, that's not saying anything for the score on disc. I don't remember any of the music itself except some pounding percussion near the end (when the bomb goes off).
The music itself might make for a good listen, but I just don't know because all I remember is my reaction to it at the time.I'll shut up now.

The elegiac end theme to Arlington Road is a nice Badalamenti tune. Not his best, nor memorable, but the emotion is there.
