Hmmm, I'm not sure but I heard he's NOT from Japan...besides, over in Japan they wouldn't allow that full-frontal nudity like that one pic of Matilda May that's...uhm, I mean, I heard about that from someone in the know and he said that, uh...well, let's just say it's what the release should have been in the first place, both musically and the way it was packaged!

I caught the film on Sci-Fi last week (weird and schizophrenic, to say the least). Henry Mancini's score was amazing; it really is a jolt to hear Mr. "Pink Panther" write a balls-out fantasy score like this.

I checked Varese's site (their cover is one of the most surreal ever), and they list it as officially out-of-print. I hope to find it someday.

The artwork for Varese's issue of LIFEFORCE derives, I believe, from a teaser trailer that showed a large eye gazing down on the Earth; an image that's not in the film. Maybe it was intended to give the film a sense of grandeur a la 2001: A SPACE ODYSSEY? I remember seeing this teaser at cinemas back in the mid-eighties at several West End cinemas (this was back in the days when West End cinemas were affordable - I couldn't do it now).

I've heard the theme and it's superb. It's a different type of score from Mancini, much more symphonic. This one definitely deserves a deluxe treatment from Varese!

I've said this before, but Mancini has a lot more range than many people give him credit for. Check out "The Night Visitor" (which is available on a Citadel CD, or was) or "The White Dawn," (which is available in a symphonic suite on a BUDGET CD on RCA or BMG, I think). "The Molly Maguires," (which was released on CD by Bay Cities) is a brilliant score. We'll all get a change to hear more Mancini "straight" when Intrada releases "Silver Streak" next year.

For those of you who don't know Mancini's work that well, I've made up a 2CD sampler that represents some of his best themes and symphonic suites. If you're interested in trading, let me know - mtrachtm@ngs.org. (hey Sean A. - did you get me e-mail about this?)

I must agree with you, soundtrackman. Mancini had his beginnings scoring horror and sci-fi flicks like Creature from the Black Lagoon, It Came from Outer Space and This Island Earth, although he was uncredited during most of his early work. Lifeforce shows he STILL had that spirit in him and was a welcome "return to form" for this composer.

I have to agree..I always thought of Breakfast at Tiffanys and Pink Panther whenm I heard the name Mancini.
But the Lifeforce music is terrific..especially on the complete boot

Check out Footlight Records in New York, they show to have it in stock. Or go to http://www.footlight.com

Fantastic score, was fortunate enough to find some new stock for the MovieMusic store. It's becoming scarce!

No film with a naked Mathilda May can ever be truly horrible.
