The cdnow people have a new Goldsmith Planet of the Apes CD listed on their website:

    Planet of the Apes

Didn't see it on the MM New Releases page.

Anyone know anything about this one?
    Also note the price: $5.

    That's pretty funny. It's a typo - it's should be JULY 12.

They don't even start recording the score until June 16th!!

It's all correct, wistiti. 6/12 release date, $4.97 srp. It's Goldsmith's score licensed by the Masters label. I don't have the CD in front of me, but this appears to be the Project 3 release making a comeback, unfortunately. Varese's edition is the ultimate, which is why I have no interest in carrying this latest one in the MM store.

But heck, if anyone wants this one to be in the MM store, just say the word.

    Ack.

I didn't get much sleep last night (busy partying, ya know?) so the "Goldsmith" fact kinda slipped me by.

    Whoops!

I'm seriously considering buying this one. But I'm still not 100% sure. I've never liked Goldsmith's score for PotA, so I've never bought the more expensive versions, even though they might have been better.
But sometimes I like having classic scores, if only because they're classics.
Which is why I got the Varese edition of North's Cleopatra and Stravinsky's The Rite of Springs (doubled with Petrouchka).

If you can get this version of PotA by the time The Mists of Avalon comes out, I'll just add it to the Mists of Avalon (+ Evolution) order. If not, it's no big deal. I've lived so far without Planet of the Apes, I can perfectly do without it. No need to add it to the store, just because one person wants it.

    Thanks for the info.

In this case, a "whoops!" might have been more productive than not doing a "whoops!"

By missing a couple of words (relateing to Goldsmith) you gave me informatin I didn't know, but wanted to know (about the June 16th recording date). So Thanks!

You've got to be kidding me.

Unfortunately people are going to go for the one that costs less and ignore the far superior Varese release.

I have that Project 3 release. It's not good. I should get the Varese issue, I know.

Wistiti, if you buy the Project 3 reissue, you give us all the right to laugh at you.

Get the Varese release, man! The Project 3 release didn't even have "The Hunt" (the most important cue in the score, and it wasn't on the original album!)!

Take the advice of everybody on this board and just get the Varese version.

    Shaun

Thing is, the Varese is three times more expensive. And if I had to pay that amount for a disc, then I wouldn't even consider buying Planet of the Apes, I'd prefer spending the cash on something else. The only thing making this Project 3 album more attractive is the price, regardless of quality or missing cues. Like I said, I never even liked this score in the first place, and I'm not even sure I'll buy it.

But I'll think about it. Thanks for the suggestions.

Planet of the Apes is a classic score, and should be heard by everyone in the best possible format -- Varese Sarabande's CD.

    awesome.

Planet of the Apes is not Planet of the Apes without "The Hunt." Save up three times the money and get a 16 minute suite of Escape from the Planet of the Apes, too. (It's got a killer '70s theme! )

    Jonathan and JJ are correct.

If you aren't going to buy the Varese disc, seriously man, don't bother buying the cheap disc. It's crap.

Jonathan and JJ and Shaun are correct!

"The Hunt" is... well... "The Hunt!"

Pay the 16+ bucks for this cue... and then be happy that you get several other tracks as well, not to mention the nifty suite of "Escape from POTA" that good sir Little previously mentioned.

"The Hunt" is the one track you will enjoy even if you don't like the rest of the score!

Well, I thought they were sending me the Varese. I think I only paid $4 for it.
