    Ok, here goes.

Which is your favourite track from Pearl Harbour, and why?*

*answers such as 'coz it's the only one that doesn't blow chucks' don't count.

I guess mine is December 7th. The choir in the second half is lovely, but I mostly like the first half, which somehow reminds me of the plane crash music (by Gorecki) in Fearless.

    Yours?

I think the choral tracks are good, but for some reason, track 6 (Attack) and track 8 (War) appeal to me the most.

I agree with Jeron, but the reason I enjoyed those tracks is because they are different from the rest of the album, which all sounds the same.

    hehe, thanks Widescreen.
I see someone shares my opinion about the handful of 2 page Pearl Harbour threads that popped up.

First score track is my favourite. It's a "been there, done that" type of piece with background excerpts similar to Zimmer's Thin Red Line. But I find it much more enjoyable than TRL. And it's the first "cute" track Zimmer has done in a long time that I like. Most of his music for the past 5 or 6 years has left me totally uninterested. But the first score cut changes that.

    Thank you Camillu...

While I don't dislike the first few tracks, 6 through 8 are really enjoyable. Can't really explain why with any real intelligence...but I will reserve final judgement on the entire score until I hear it in context...

Thanks for the breath of fresh air...

I guess I am the opposite then. While, I do like those tracks, it is the rest of the cues I like more, even with the repetitiveness throughout. Since it is different than most of what I have heard from Hans Zimmer.

In any case, I love the whole score. Don't be surprised to see it get 5 stars once I finish the review I am working on!

Well, I'm glad you like it! (Everyone is entitled to their own opinion!)

I do hope, though, that you review the album after seeing the film, to give it more context...

(For those of you who are following the war at home--or wherever your terminal may be located--we have going here, thanks for keeping up the fight.)

After lots of analysis, I think I've got it nailed down to two groups:
    1) Those that hate it.
    2) Those that love it.

Anyway....bullshit aside. This is a really amazing movie. It's got its' cheesy moments, but overall. I can't even be sure anymore, that when I say "If you loved...Saving Private Ryan/The Patriot...movies of that calibre, (for whatever you regard as calibre) then you'll love this one...." I usually hate those kinds of statements--they're crap that you read in those cheap "coming soon" handbills that you pick up on your way out of the local video rental.

This is quite an emotional and exhilirating movie. I know, somewhere in your mind, you've kind of prepared yourself for all the eventualities that may occur along the plotline. (Some say "predictable".) I think if you're looking forward to it, and have an open heart towards these kinds of films, then you shouldn't be disappointed. It's a full experience (well worth the whole $8 dollars.)

And just to keep this in context, the music works terrifically within the film--the love theme, the Japanese undercurrent, the action music. Great stuff, all of it.

Enjoyed the score a great deal. I chose to wait until after the movie to get it so it made the listening experience much more enjoyable.

Sure, I think it is good. Could it be better? Yes! In fact, all scores could be better these days. Oh well! Not like my opinion is any more important than anyone else's!

Well, if you don't mind waiting a few years, then I'll try to do so!

Seriously though, I won't be seeing this film anytime soon. Most likely I will when it is on DVD or cable though. Otherwise...

Anyway. I have to wonder why so many seem to be having issues with this score. It seems everyone complains when he is his usual repetitive self. Then he does something that IMO shows even a hint of originality and is rather good, yet he still gets bashed from the majority of film music fans. I just don't get it.

I hate to say it, but the feeling I get that most like to complain about the music, than being pleased with what is available, just keeps getting more and more a reality!

I just now remembered what the Pearl Harbor "theme" sounds like. "Paris and Bond" from Tomorrow Never Dies. Check it out.

I neither love it nor hate it. I'm simply not overly fond of it.

I didn't bother to read all the post here, but if its still on topic.

I like the final track, Heart of a Vonlunteer. Why? Because a pretty good suite of the themes.

Really? I hadn't noticed. Though, did noticed what sounds like Air Force One. Just listen to track 8. One of the most similar sounding sections happens at 3:55-4:20 and again at 4:53-5:15. Maybe it's just me!

Glad to hear it! I have never been to good at picking out such similarities. Though, it is kind of obvious in this case.

I guess that music is just popular, take a look at U-571!

Track 9. I said in PeterKs thread I wish the enitre score had met the tone of this one cue, it's the only real cue off the CD I truly like beginning to end.

Is Justin about to be a Goldsmith convert?

Sean, I noticed the AFO thing, but not until I heard it blasting from my brother's room. He's totally obsessed with Michael Bay....ugh.
