ALIENS expanded...."PAH"!, does no one apart from 'moi' have this expanded release of sophisticated cool genius yet?!

I'm talking about THE GOOD, THE BAD, AND THE UGLY!, Morricone redefined the sound of Westerns with this and the 'Dollars' films, If there's anyone here who's never heard this (is that possible?), do yourself a favour and pick this up and find out what true genius means!

everyone else (probably EVERYBODY)...I don't need to tell you twice

Waiting for this in the mail. I'm on a Morricone kick right now so I'm REALLY looking forward to this one.

    Hi,

I'm on a small Morricone kick myself. I recently got the LP transfer for 'Days of Heaven' which contain the cues left out from the CD release. After playing it, I just had to listen to 'Two Mules for Sister Sara'. I was even playing 'Butterfly' earlier today.

I remember some discussion on 'Malena' and Andre saying 'Vatel' was better so I decided to get both and am awaiting its arrival.

I don't have 'The Good, The Bad, and the Ugly' but do recall some of the cues from the film. Unfortunately, I've never understood the fascination for the 'Aliens' score - be it ost, expanded, complete, or deluxe.

    Regards,
    Rochelle

Vatel and Canone Inverso are both better than Malena.

and we must remember that Malena is pretty darned good itself.

Rochelle, how much music was left off of the Days Of Heaven CD? Anything significant?
BTW, I love Butterfly... A great melancholy score. I even like the song sung by Pia Zadora. Very haunting.

    Hi,

The CD release (Legend) contains 9 cues with a total of 26:17 mins.
    Harvest
    Threshing
    Happiness
    The Honeymoon
    The Return
    The Chase
    The Fire
    Ashes and Dust
    Days of Heaven

The LP transfer (36:25) has the above plus:
    The Aquariam
    We Used to Do Things
    Enderlin
    Swamp Dance

'The Aquariam' is so prevalent in the film it should not have been left off the CD (or any of it for that matter). It is the piece of score with 'tingling bells' and subtle string orchestration. Beautiful.

'We Used to do Things' is small piece of narration (Linda) taken from the film. It fits in rather well with the tone of the score.

'Enderlin' is centered on the acoustic guitar with Southern overtones.

Staying with the Southern theme...'Swamp Dance' brings the violin to attention and is more a song than score.

I guess they felt the Southern tones detracted from the overall stylistic structure when coupling 'Days of Heaven' with 'Two Mules for Sister Sara'. That doesn't excuse the omission of 'The Aquariam' and 'We Used to do Things' from the CD though.

Pia Zadora - what ever happened to her?

    Regards,
    Rochelle

Don't let the mono thing scare you away... The extra tracks sound great and you'll hardly notice the difference as you listen to the great music. And the packaging is terrific... Most of the different artwork used for the posters for different countries are represented. And it should be mentioned... GDM has produced this disc in limited quantities. Can't remember what the run is limited to but combine that with the fact that it's an import means that it's going to get hard to find at some point.

Mono can be pretty annoying when using headphones, because then the difference is more than apparent. Better than nothing of course, though, and I'm still extremely happy about the original Captain Blood tracks, even though they clearly have 1935-sound.

Peter, do not hesitate. If you carry it, I'll order it from you!

I have no problem with mono tracks. Sometimes mono mixes work better than stereo mixes do. The song "Highway Chile" from the Jimi Hendrix Experience was released in its mono mix because producer Chas Chandler was floored by the power that it had, while the stereo mix was more flaccid.
