Just finished watching this very freaky Vincent Price film, and I now find myself yearning for that creeeeeeeeeepy organ arrangement of Mendelssohn (WAS it?).Michael Javorka would be damned proud of me for watching this (finally), and he'd be the guy to ask, but he's currently unavailable (good luck, buddy!)...........so I ask all of you. Does anyone have this soundtrack album on CD? Any info at all would be much appreciated!
Thanks,

Shaun,
There was an LP released many years ago, but it's obviously out of print and probably pretty rare.I saw Vincent Price speak many years ago at college. When asked what favorite character he portrayed, guess which one it was?

Shaun, which Phibes film was that? The Abominable or Rises Again? I can't place the piece of music you mention, but Basil Kirchin did a splendid score for the first one. Kirchin, born in Blackpool, England, son of jazz drummer Ivor Kirchin (and mother Ivor Bedroom) had one of the most distinctive voices of 60s and early 70s British low-budgeters, all throbbing bass lines and brass clusters, just on the edge of jazz. Anyone remember his geat scores for The Mutations and The Shutttered Room? The latter was more than vaguely inappropriate, with all those bass and drum solos from Chris Karan and Pete McGurk, but I loved it.There was indeed a release on LP of Abominable. I'll think back to a post I saw here ages ago and say that I THINK TIMMER'S GOT IT!

Hey, Shaun, it's about time you started watching the films that I've been praising for years now, more so for their scores than necessarily the films themselves! As you can see, I'm not gone yet.As Graham has stated, Basil Kirchin wrote the score music for the film, most of which didn't appear on the released LP. The LP contained mainly impersonations by Paul Frees (Boris Badenov of Rocky and Bullwinkle fame, not to mention a plethora of other cartoon voices) of popular standards, the only one making the film being his Jolson-ish Darktown Strutters Ball. The organ music didn't make the LP. However, the intro music (if that's the organ music you are referring to) did make it to my Vincent Price compilation disc which I've seen people auctioning on ebay from time to time, fetching a pretty penny for it too.
Shall I add this disc to your want list of titles to get from me? It's a great listen, especially if you're a fan of Vince or Edgar Allan Poe. Of course you could just record it to CD yourself, but where else could you get the music from all of those Vincent Price films in one place? Ah, Vulnavia...

Hey!
Javorka's still here! Rock on! Graham, I was talking about the first film (Abominable), which featured that arrangment of Mendelssohn (I still don't know if that's correct). Thanks for the input, guys!
Hey Michael, I actually noticed an auction on eBay with this Vincent Price comp you speak of. It went for $41! Of COURSE I want this, and I'm ashamed of myself for not wanting it before. I'm still learning the ropes with horror films, figured I'd start with the "A"s.

majestyx, what's that "Conqerer Worm" with "Kendall Schmidt" music? Wasn't that the American title for Witchfinder General? Didn't Paul Ferris do the score for that?

Hmmm...I could swear that was the credit given on my LaserDisc of this film. I don't see how I could have made that big of a mistake. Looks like I'll have to check it out...now where did I put it...?

AIP's Dr. Phibes movies are two of the most stylish and entertaining confections (dark chocolate, of course) that they ever produced.
I love them both. You magnificent bastard.
