Ok, for those that care, the new Horner CD for the John Woo directed is on RCA Victor.

No info on what is on the disc, I can only assume Horner's score.

Yeah, most likely his score - which he's still writing, and hasn't been recorded as of yet.

Well, then he hasn't recorded it yet. At least, that's my understanding.

Oh, wait. I get it. It's a joke, since Horner will most likely use the same material from his past 17 films..... heh.

Of course he has already written it, it's on discs like Willow, Star Trek and such.

    Me no like this.

RCA Victor too often does song compilations.

And it was RCA Victor which gave us that horrible Alien Resurrection CD which was missing the best cue of the movie.
(BTW, anyone seen a bootleg of Alien 4?)

    Bad, bad, bad...

RCA Victor might do song compilations, but I remind you that they put out many a full score album.

The SW Trilogy SE CDs, for one, and:

Apt Pupil, The Austin Powers Scores, Chicken Run, The Edge, eXistenZ, Endurance, Gandhi, Gods and Monsters, Heartbreakers, Hope Floats, Incognito, Quills, The River Wild, Shining Through, State and Main, and many many more.

    So why the concern??

Because I don't know what to expect from that label.

When I hear Columbia, Sony Classical, London/Decca, or Interscope, I know what to expect.
Columbia: songs + 1 score cut
Sony Classical & Decca: 70 minutes monster score album, and/or the (almost) complete score
    Interscope: No score, just songs

(with rare exceptions in each case such as Interscope's The Grinch or Sony Classical's Crouchin Tiger which is missing one of the best cues, or Columbia's The Prince of Tides)

When I hear RCA Victor, I'm never too sure of what to expect. It can either be fabulous (the Star Wars collection), or pure garbage (Switchback).

Well, considering that the film takes place in the 1940s, don't expect any Smashmouth or "modern" pop songs. I think it's safe in this case (given Horner's stature) to expect a rather hearty score album, with maybe a few source songs.

What was the best cue of the movie in your opinion, then? I'd say probably "They Swim" was the best bit (although I really love the bit when Ripley runs & jumps onto the Betty). Which bit are you thinking of?

I was referring to the finale. After the alien kid is sucked out and the ship arrives on Earth. That cue is my favourite, but it's not on the CD.

Oh, yeah!! I'd forgotten that bit. That is really good too. I'd certainly like to have that on CD. Mind you, there's a HECK of a lot of music I could say that about... I'd guess that it wasn't included because of timing problems (just a random guess, totally uninformed). Was it a bit like ID4, when the CD was out before they'd finished recording?

Yeah, and I thought it was a crappy use of a song in a film where it didn't belong. BUT. There is over 70 minutes of score on that album, so one song isn't a big deal when it comes down to it.

So if there's 70 minutes of WINDTALKERS and one song, are you going to complain?

It's not unusual for some record companies to get "on board" with a cd release way before the score even gets recorded.

If it's Horner, we be complainin'. It's been 4 years since Titanic, and his subsequent scores have all been less-than-thrilling. I can't wait for the day where we'll get a 30 minute Horner album (I'm not counting The Grinch, for obvious reasons).

    Most definitely... maybe.
It all depends on the selection of score presented. If it's like The Mummy Returns, I'll most probably not complain. It had most of what I really wanted. The rest I can do without.

    Wistiti,

There is a 95 odd mins, 2CDR boot of ALIEN:RESURRECTION floating about...I dont have it(yet!??!) but Im sure that climactic choral cue is on there.

Have to question my sanity if I really need that much of Frizell's score though...

Yes, the lable is RCA Victor. Why do you people think it could be a song album? It's a World War II movie about Native Americans fighting in the Pacific; I highly doubt there's gonna be songs in it. And the source of this information is the theatrical poster: "Soundtrack Available on RCA Victor." I hope Horner writes something like Thunderheart, I wouldn't even mind if he copied just that score note for note; other than that his score better be pretty damn original.

I think I'm the only one who thinks that. And it's because I don't trust RCA Victor. You never know what to expect from that label.
The reason for which I think it might be a song album, is because most of the time, the movies whose soundtrack labels are announced so early (on the poster especially) are the ones which have song soundtracks. Also, when I went over some of RCA Victor's soundtracks, the impression I got was that most of their stuff was song-based.
I certainly do hope I'm wrong.

Windtalkers will feature a song by NSYNC, entitled "How Does My Love Talk To The Wind's Heart?" The rest will be score.

Alien Resurrection's boot has two versions of the choral cue, but I haven't listened to it in so long I couldn't tell you what the difference between them was.

sean, Horner's already ripped off Thunderheart. Listen to Ransom.

Honestly, I think RCA Victor's release will be all score. When was the last time James Horner really, truly got shafted on a release (GRINCH not withstanding, that was just a commerical farce)? Expect a quite, quite lengthy SCORE release here.

Umm.. is it Windtalkers or Windwalkers?? Saw Mummy Returns tonight and saw the movie poster for this one..I was excited to see it was going to be scored by Horner. I know a lot of people dont like hime, but he is one of my faves...can't wait for the score (hopefully the score!!) release...
