I saw a good portion of this on NBC last night. What a poor mess of a film. Acting bad all the way around. Coyote was telegraphing his lines and overacting badly. Script was horrible. Dumb story and even dumb ending. Score was fair by Goldenthal. Movie was really dumb!!!!! Score gets a B, film F+ for a few moments of suspense only. Too bad, could have been good. Idea good, script and dialog just awful. Lots of them were sleepwalking through their parts and Hoffman looked bored in several scenes. Stone's lines and delivery were awful. Jackson came across very badly in a poor role too. AOK, there you go. John.

The book is better, read the book. The movie could have had something for it, I think Elliot's score went well given the nature of the book and story. Again, that's a movie I'd like to remake

BLEAH!!!!! Stooooooooopid movie made from a pretty good Crichton novel. Ok, where was the giant squid?!?!??!? Ugh. I'm sorry but Dustin Hoffman is a hideous actor and makes me want to eat my own vomit. So self-absorbed and self-important even with the most inocuous of lines. And what was up with that hair?! And will he ever lose that Rain Man waddle? A great movie could have been made from this book (Crichton doesn't seem to fare well in film adaptations) and it needed to be scored by oh,...say...John Barry.

I've been meaning to rent SPHERE (mainly to hear Goldenthal's score), and after watching it last night, I still intend to; basically due to the commercial breaks which I felt disrupted the flow of the film; consequentially, I was never really able to get that involved in the film. (Also, it probably didn't help that I missed nearly 30 minutes of the film while I was doing something else! )

However, I did like Goldenthal's score. Good stuff.

I've never seen the movie, but the score is a masterpiece. My favourite of the Goldenthal scores I know.

I agree with Crono/Kyp, the book is wicked good.

The movie doesn't do the book justice at all. I was very disappointed with it.

We were getting ready to watch Miss Congeniality on Saturday night (Go Sandra!!!), and watched just a bit of the first part of the movie. I did not know what the movie was at the time, but it was near the first I think, where they are in the chamber with the helium gas. I was very happy with the music that I heard during the time I watched the movie. my mom did say that the book was better, I think I will read the book, watch the movie, get the score. Or in some order like that.
