Just spotted this at Varese's site:EVOLUTION
Original Motion Picture SoundtrackMusic Composed by John Powell
Men In Black meets Jurassic Park in Evolution, a new film from Ivan Reitman, the director of Ghostbusters and Dave. The film follows the chaos that ensues when a meteor hits the earth carrying alien life forms that give new meaning to the term “survival of the fittest.” David Duchovny (The X-Files), Orlando Jones (Bedazzled, The Replacements), Seann William Scott (American Pie) and two-time Oscar nominee Julianne Moore (Hannibal, Boogie Nights) star as the only people standing between the aliens and world domination…which could be bad news for the earth!
The breathtaking score for Evolution is by John Powell, one of the most exciting new names in film music. With such blockbusters as Chicken Run and Antz behind him, the music for Shrek, alongside his enormous score for Evolution, represent his entries for Summer 2001. Evolution is perhaps his most magnificent work so far.

Great, just what we need: another sampled testosterona driven noise from the Music Vaporizers drones... But I've heard there are some people which get all excited about it.The good news is that I won't have to spend my money in another album.*

It means you are a MV fan, right Justin?I mean, writing ludicrous personal remarks instead of something else...

The only MV crew member which I really respect is Marc Mancina, because he left MV and found his own style. As for Powell, he needs to take a hint from Mancina.
Mancina, I salute you!

We all know that John Power, Harrison-Gregson Williamson, Trevor Rebanho, Nick-Gliny Smight and Gunther Kapofsky are all the same person: HANZIMZER.He just inveted all this ludicrous names to escape from the Public Treasury. That's all.

Andre you mean you didn't like the score to Chicken Run? I know it is by MV but at least they use an orchestra for a change.

The only cat in the immediate vicinity is a vile, pestilent creature that crouches under a van in the front yard and goes into claustrophobic wall-climbing fits if enticed into the house. We feed it anyway. Although half the time we're tempted to feed IT to the anxious Rottweiler next door (who would no doubt appreciate the gesture, but that would simply be mean.) (But I AM mean ... hmmm
)As for John Powell, I loved his score for FACE/OFF, and admired parts of ANTZ and CHICKEN RUN. He may be an MV guy, but for my money really IS a real composer. The only catch is I'd probably have to see this movie to be certain the score was worth the money, and I'm not at all sure I want to see this movie

I have two cats. So what?
Does it means that if one of them die I can be a new member of the M "spanking the keyboard with a dead cat" V?As for CHICKEN RUN, I didn't find anything new on it, just the same MV stuff. They just don't know how to use an orchestra. Quite embarrassing...

OK Andre, now is where I come to your defense and agree with your comment about MV and their lack of orchestral use. I much prefer the sound of Williams, Goldsmith, Horner and Arnold because there is nothing like hearing an actual flute or trumpet solo just flow through you. As for me liking the MV style, you have to admit the music they compose for the movies they do call for that style whether it be a good or bad film.
Obviously the directors call for them and sometimes I see your post about another composer who could've did a much better job and I agree, but I don't count out the MV crew because I do infact like what they do for the movie. So yeah Andre...I understand exactly where your coming from. So now you can take me out of the typical MV lover you have branded most of us around here.

Andre buddy, I simply must point out something to you:At some point, even Media Ventures composers have to make sure that their music appears as notes on a page. Zimmer is almost proud of the fact that he doesn't write music -- but at the same time has always counted on others to transcribe it for him.
Therefore, SOME of the Media Ventures people MUST, by ANY definition, be "real composers." Or at least "professional arrangers."
I think John Powell and Harry Gregson-Williams (the latter has conducted a lot for Zimmer, hasn't he?) must fall into this category.
You may not like their music (gee, Andre, do you or not? I've NEEEVER been sure
), but some of these guys ARE seriously trained -- a recent FSM article bears this out. I may not care for the MV phenomenon, but its existence doesn't mean that ALL of them don't know what they're doing.

Of course they know what they are doing: transforming the art of film score into fast-junk music. It's all a conspiracy you know.
And I already knew that some of Hanzina pets had to be trained, but this doesn't mean they are good, does it? That needs talent...

I rented this movie over the weekend and I thought the score was decent. Sure, it's got the typical "Media Ventures" sound in some places (which I'm not really fond of,) but for the most part, it sounded like a good score. The track lengths look like something off of a bootleg (many are about a minute or less) so I'm wondering if this score works well as a stand alone listen. Is it worth purchasing?

Well those people visit this site but apparently never come to the message board. Because they'd know the "background music" IS what people want. And they'll learn the word "SCORE".

Coincidentally, I rented and watched this over the weekend, too. I missed the opening credits and the "Music by John Powell," but was so impressed with the score that when I rewound it, I made sure to go back and get the composers name.I was afraid the CD would have all those "songs with words" that were in the movie. But now I'm pleased to see it doesn't.
I'll be looking for it on my next trip to the music store.

I wonder...
Would it be possible to create some sort of a filter that prevents ignorant people (who obviously don't look at the back of a CD cover to check if the 'music with words' they want is actually on the CD)coming to this web site?
