"PG-13 sex". Don't you think that there is way too much sex in movies already? Its really ridiculous! These producers really need to grow up and understand, that you can explain a love relationship by just putting characters in a situation where its obvious that they really care for each other, and perhaps imply sex. There is really no need and is indecent to graphically show it in the most pornographic way the law will alow in R rated movie!

indeed. they used to make way back when, during a time when they didn't feel the need to pepper the audience in obsceneties. The movies also happened to be more literate, suggesting moods or eroticism through words (and great scores) and not having to turn it into a nature documentary.

If I am wrong and Pearl Harbor is good, I will buy a hobo on the streets a coke. If you are right, you do so, or a sandwhich, you choose.

I just see Harbor as another shallow hollywood budgeted and pushed film is all. To go in with a critical eye is good for some films, but I am not going to go in as if I had just ahd a labotomy, I wnat to be mentally and emotionally pushed, not just emotionally. Too bad hollywood is usually just emotions.

What the hell is film music, then?

    Quill,

I agree with your original post about jumping the gun. You've also raised some good questions about the experience of film music.

Having read the comments on this thread, I decided to wait until I saw the film (which will be a while - here in Australia)

I don't have a fixed schema for deciding when a score is good or not. I buy/trade many and never get to see the film but can still enjoy the score. Sometimes, I enjoy the score better after the film. In the case of 'Gladiator' I had to see the film twice before I really got stuck into it. I started another thread on McKenzie noting that seeing the film may have not enhanced my appreciation for the score at all since I loved it without the film.

    Regards,
    Rochelle

    Andre,

    I don't worship Zimmer... I worship you.
Damned are the oceans that seperate us.

However, I like some of Zimmer's work - especially 'The Thin Red Line' which is one of my all-time faves.

I guess you should put me out of my misery....

The way I am handling the movie itself is somewhat simple. I know what to expect of Bay, I'm ready for a lame screenplay, re-hash of Armageddon's "love story", overly loud sound mix and impressive visuals. NOW, if by some amazing chance he delivers more then that, all the more pleased I will be.

Regardless, right now, never expecting a masterpiece, I feel I know what's coming, and with that in mind I probably won't hate the movie.

You indeed have good taste, since THE THIN RED LINE is the only almost nice score Z wrote.

    I can forgive you!
