TCM will show a the 1966 George Seaton film 36 Hours today (Wednesday, Apr. 25 @ 6 pm). It's a very interesting WWII spy thriller with a wonderful score by Dimitri Tiomkin.Future finds on TCM will include Captive City (Jerome Moross), a number of Elmer Bernstein-scored films including Bridge at Remagen, Cannon For Cordoba, By Love Possessed, and Kings of the Sun, and one of my all-time favorites, Destination Tokyo (Franz Waxman).

36 Hours is a great score, Lou. Back in 1963-66 I used to go into Roland's Record Store and Jewelry Shop in Ridglea and scan all the great soundtracks in west Ft. Worth. I bought quite a few there in those years. One I saw quite a bit there was 36 Hours. I now have several copies of both issues. Best, John.

I'm especially interested in seeing (hearing) "Kings of the Sun," because, as you may know, it's going to be an upcoming CD release on Bernstein's new record label.

Yes, Bernstein's score for Kings of the Sun is very good, but the film is a ludicrous costume epic that has many unintentionally funny scenes. In several scenes you can tell the Aztec swords are plastic and flimsy cardboard and wood. When Chakiris throws Yul Brynner to the ground, the crowd goes "Ah-h-h-h", the Indians watching what was going on. It was very similar to how kids back in the Sixties would say, if someone was having a bad day or told a sob story. It was really funny. Some really bad acting in this film. Film D----------, score B+. Best, John.
