I remember reading something a month or two back about a possible remake of Hammers The Devil Rides Out, with Christopher Lee reprising his role, & Joe Dante directing. I'm certainly not opposed to the idea, & I can't think of many other people I'd rather see in the directors chair.
It does, however offer up some interesting prospects for a score. Would Goldsmith take it? It might mean a slight change in the direction of his scoring, as I can't see a sound such as Along Came A Spider, Hollow Man or The Haunting really fitting in. Of course, there may be a chance of James Bernard coming back to score it, although he may back out for the same reason that Goldsmith wouldn't do the new Planet of the Apes. Or maybe Dante's older collaborator, Pino Donaggio could take it. Now that is something I would love to hear.
Alternatively, he could choose someone different - I would imagine Marco Beltrami, Bruce Broughton, or Danny Elfman would make a tasty listen of the job.
Anyone have any other thoughts of who would be a good choice, or if the film itself is a good choice?

    np nothing.

It would be most interesting to see a remake of THE DEVIL RIDES OUT, although I'm not holding my breath - there has been much talk for years of Hammer remakes but nothing has materialised so far. The original is excellent but the low-budget effects severely hamper things, as do the awkward performances of some of the supporting cast.
However: I would hate to see an overblown "Hollywood-ised" travesty with wall-to-wall CGI effects which is somehow what I think we would end up with (if indeed the remake ever comes to light).
Although it would be terrific to have Christopher Lee have another crack at the Duc de Richleau (he was a bit too young first time round!), getting James Bernard to write the score might be taking things a bit too far (I love Bernard's music by the way, and nothing would make me happier than to see him get a major scoring assignment today, but any proposed remake should have a new identity. I doubt that the Hollywood "suits" would entertain that idea anyway, sadly).
Not sure if Dante is the right man for the job, much as I like his work. Although if he does do it, you can bet that Goldsmith would certainly be scoring it (and I'm sure he would jump at the chance to score a big, old-fashioned Gothic-styled movie like this).
Let's hope the rumour finally turns into a reality - but only if it's done properly.

Personally if this film ever came about I'd love to see Christopher Lee reprising his role and also have James Bernard doing a re-recording/re-arrangement of his original score. I still think that Bernard's music would work well in a modern remake just like Herrmann's score worked for the Cape Fear and Psycho remakes, although I didn't think the movies were half as good as the originals!
