"How much score is in the film?"

    Too much.

If you like that and want more of the same kinda sound, if you don't have the following--get 'em!

The Edge (beginning of track 9 and I think track 3 are directly from this score)

Hollow Man (slinky theme, like The Haunting and Basic Instinct)

Poltergeist (had to throw this in, as it's better than all of the above scores combined)

and if you want a REALLY crappy score, try and find the 30-minute Poltergeist II. Ouch!

I REALLY liked the theme for Lili Taylor's character (at least that's what I think he was up to -- best heard in "A Place For Everything"), and thought the overall score in the film was quite thrilling, especially considering how awesomely BAD the picture is. Stunning production design by Eugenio Zanetti almost transparently put together to disguise the film's lack of a script. I did regret that, apparently, there was no room in the movie for Goldsmith to do a bigger, britches-bursting version of "A Place For Everything" at SOME point. It's a lovely theme.

I'd pick up an expanded HAUNTING in a second, but then, I'm such a Goldsmith freak that I'd even pick up an expanded MR. BASEBALL if there WERE one (oh God, please don't let there be one.)

I really really enjoy the Haunting (probably more than Poltergeist!). I'm not quite sure why. The main theme is good, and I enjoy the fact that it is whistled in the movie! That needs to happen more often!
I think the sound quality on the cd is awesome, and I love the 2nd to the last track. Its great to blast really loud late at night

People at Henks Adbook are always asking for an expanded Haunting, but I don't think that it exists. (yet.)

Goldsmith's atmospheric score was one of the few bright spots of the 1999 THE HAUNTING, which on the whole was a dumbed-down, sentimental travesty of the original material. For a truly bone-chilling experience, try the original Robert Wise-directed black-&-white original movie, which features an excellent score by Humphrey Searle.

The score is good! Not top-notch Goldsmith, but a very nice spooky theme, although the album as a whole is rather repetitive (knowing Robert Wise's excellent original, I never cared to watch the remake; I wonder if the music in the film is more varied than on the disc, like in the case of ST: Insurrection?). I'm not too fond of the "carousel" theme either, but I still like to play the score.

I think Jerry Goldsmith did an excellent job on this score. BUT! I think Jan De Bont should have had Mark Mancina return to work on it for their 4th time working together. This kinda ruined their tradition (so to speak).

I don't know whether De Bont wanted Goldsmith, or if that was Spielberg's idea. (Note that just as with POLTERGEIST, he also deployed his own usual film editor Michael Kahn, in what I see as a last-ditch effort to save the picture.) However, I believe Paul Verhoeven mentioned seeing THE OMEN with De Bont when it played in Holland, and both of them fell completely in love with Goldsmith's music, and became determined to work with him someday. (Possibly Verhoeven was speaking of his other frequent cinematographer Jost Vacano, however.)

At least Goldsmith was spared the one De Bont movie arguably worse than THE HAUNTING -- SPEED 2, of course.

This is also one of my favorite Goldsmith scores... it is infectios (spelled right??) Anyways, it has some of the most lush string passages in all of Goldsmiths scores... the theme he wrote for the "house" is also one of the spookiest he has ever penned, in my opinion. I actually have one xtra track- I had someone rip the "end Title" for me from the dvd and it sounds perfect... A great suite which even boasts a little unreleased snippets of the score.....
Lets see a good boot out there!

The music from The Haunting was composed and conducted by Humphrey Searle.

Goldsmith didn't have anything to do with it.

Furthermore, the film was directed by Robert Wise, not this Jan De Bont character...

I am not sure what you mean that Goldsmith didn't have anything to do with it, but anyways we are all titled to our opinions. Anyways...I did love the score and the movie. I am a sucker for horror films, or what others might consider cheesy horror films. A lot of me loved the movie because of Catherine Zeta Jones. Grroww!!! And I loved the theme that Lili Taylor (Ellanor) hummed...etc..overall a good score, with my top 20.

I had more fun with Speed 2 than with The Haunting. The Haunting I was hoping would be scary, and it wasn't. Speed 2 I knew was going to be incredibly dumb, and I only watched it because it was so. (Of course, I watched D&D for the same reason. I like to watch a stupid film every now and then and just tear it to pieces. Great fun.)
Oh, and I thought the Haunting was a good score, too.

John, this is a joke right???? I don't know what's sadder, the fact that this might be real, or the drool that appeared when I read this! Time to check into Film Score Anonymous, this is getting nuts

The Haunting is a remake of the 1963 film The Haunting, directed by Robert Wise. I believe Swash was taking a jab at it by his references.

    Yes, it's a joke. I couldn't resist when I saw Rocco's post above.
I don't even have Mr. Baseball. And I was really playing The Mexican at the time.

    PHEW!

Time to put away the straight jacket

Actually, I have the cass. of MR.BASEBALL, and it's not really a bad score. The love stuff is pretty cool, and its a breezy listen. The "ballpark" motif is a throwaway though.

I have to wonder, if Goldsmith's score gets trashed as much as it does, what does that say about the film?!

In any case, I like both!

Is the score still in print?

    Regards,
