Any reason to keep the one disc TPM now that I have the 2-disc? I think I'm going to sell it to a local store for $5.

HELL YES !!! For one, the complete version of Dual Of The Fates. And Anakin's theme, and yes, even Jar Jar's theme. Those are at least 3 cues which do not appear in their entirety on the 2 disc set.

Well the original does have the concert versions of "Duel of the Fates" and "Anakin's Theme"; unless, of course, it doesn't really matter to you. I kept my original for that reason.NP: White Squall - Jeff Rona ***/*****

It also has the 'not-as-heavily-edited-as-the-UE-but-still-not-quite-complete' version of 'Panaka and rhe Queen's Protectors'.

I don't actually want the 2-CD set. I'm quite happy with the non-Ultimate Edition.NP: INDIANA JONES AND THE LAST CRUSADE (John Williams)

(Groan). And I had to buy the Ultimate Edition yesterday after another restless day of "Towering Inferno" not arriving!Has anyone noticed an interesting trend of how original editions of a Williams score always need to be retained even after an expanded edition comes out? (E.T., Jaws, Star Wars, and now Phantom Menace. I even kept the original Superman CD because the End Title arrangment isn't on the expanded edition)

I bought the cd before the film was released and listened to a few tracks once in a while, mainly DueOTFates. Since Ep:1 was released I have not listened to the score once. Not once. Sell it! It is not a great score really. Sure sure Duel is great but with such a stupid film, the score comes off as a silly waste. Let some Star Wars nut buy it and then get bored with it and let the cycle continue.

then why do you bother collecting scores, Kross?most films are large pieces of crap.
and TPm is 100% more complex than anything else that came out in 1999. Not to say it was the BEST, but better than you give it credit for.

Well, TPM was a great experience for me, I really enjoy watch again and again, no problem with that anti-Jar-Jar fever. And the ultimate edition is also amazing, the edits don't bother me. Is the music as in the film. What's the problem??

Well this Star Wars "nut" isn't bored with either disc and has no plan to part with both although the edits are annoying, at least the last part of disc 2. Then what the hell do I know, I liked TPM film and I know people who did too........gasp!!!!!

If you liked TPM by all means go ahead and keep the score. If you like the score by all means keep the score of course. I hate both the score and the film for various reasons. TPM is complex, and good Williams, but it is boring silly fluffy junk to my ears except DuelOTF. That is just me though, so if you like it, like it. I do not though, and I might just rid my collection of it.I am not truly a collector. I listen to the music for enjoyment and inspiration, not collection. Williams is in no way my favorite composer and I tend to dislike the mainstream scores since they are usually obvious in how they will sound(If that makes any sense.) Films with an edge, like Titus, and Requiem for a Dream are my favortie types of film scores. Mainly due to the fact that the film is great, but the score usually is DIFFERENT and exciting instead of obvious hollywood emotions. If you like that stuff than more power to ya, but I don't and I was just commenting on that is all.

E.T. and Jaws are special cases in that the originals are actually different recordings, not merely different CD arrangements. E.T. is a real tragedy - the original release is sooooo much better than the "expanded" edition, but it's gone OOP and probably won't ever be remastered/reissued.
As far as Phanton Menance goes, I have no desire for an expanded release, especially one that leaves out the best music! The original CD is plenty long - overlong, if anything.

[/B]Indeed it would be a shame if the original issue of "E.T." went out of print (it's a perfect album) but I'm sure it hasn't, nor ever will. Unless my eyes were deceiving me the other day in HMV Oxford St, London, their soundtrack dept is well-stocked with both the orig and expanded versions. I agree with everyone here who expresses a preference for the orig PHANTOM MENACE CD - the expanded version is an unlistenable abomination. Even if it did not feature the appalling edits and looping present in the movie, it would still be too much of a good thing, as is so often the case with the current crop of "complete" score releases - I usually find myself returning to the originals more often.

Interesting. It's definitely OOP in the US, probably since 1996 when the new release came out. Both editions were issued on the MCA label. Can you point to a UK web store that has it?
