I mean aside from his classical piece...I got101 Dalmatians this afternoon...very nice sounding....why in goodness' name does this have a 1.71 rating on this site? It's much better than that. Very much a nice effort by Kamen.

Incidentally I ordered this CD from a place called half.com on Saturday. It's already arrived all the way from Ohio. Talk about quick service; the email confirmaton I got said it might take anywhere from 5 to 21 days to arrive.

I'd use half.com, if UK people could use it. But it's USA only.

Well I have yet to really be introduced to Kamen yet. I have his Robin Hood score that oddly enough I bought for the song way back when.

So, 101 Dalmations is worth picking up, what are some of his other efforts worth checking out?

NP: Godzilla - David Arnold (those opening titles can really start making the light dim and windows rattle )

My personal favourite Kamen scores are his big noisy action scores; about the best legally available of those are DIE HARD 2 and the score release of LAST ACTION HERO. I have the bootleg (hate! hate!) of DIE HARD, and I like it but hate its unauthorised status. The first LETHAL WEAPON is terrific, but not released on CD (cassette and LP only). X-MEN is terrific stuff, DEAD ZONE is spooky, and EVENT HORIZON is a good mix of orchestra and Orbital. And SUSPECT (if you can find it): not great, but worth having.

    indeed, I am a sucka...

    anyhoo...anyone heard Brazil?

NP -- Maurice Jarre at Abbey Road, curiously enough, all the music is by Jarre. Right now it's on "Fatal Attraction."

Brazil is a great score, man. It's too bad the score as heard on the album is mucked up the ass who decided to include dialogue, a Kate Bush vocal over the exquisite Kamen arrangement of "Brazil", and VERY cheap packaging (it looks like a Soundtrack Library release).

I did say it was a great score, but it would've been a lot better back in '85 (I was a mere lad of 7 at the time, and only cared about my Bert & Ernie books), as most of the music has been reused by Kamen in his more popular scores (especially Robin Hood: Prince Of Thieves).

Kamen's one of those composers that is just so damned cool that it pains me to dislike his music.

Drop everything, rent The Iron Giant and then buy the score soundtrack.

    Welcome to Michael Kamen.

There's a great boot floating around that sounds excellent of LETHAL WEAPON.

    Jeron - that's not a recommendation.

    It's an order

Which I strongly second, since the score is one of the main reasons I consider Kamen to be a genius.

If you already have a score, and you are ordered to buy it, that's a good thing? What are you going to do with the old copy...?

I'm very surprised nobody has mentioned kamen's wonderful score from The Last Boyscout. The blues themes he developed are really cool IMO. If you ever see the boot floating around.. GET IT! you won't be dissapointed.

I'd have mentioned THE LAST BOY SCOUT if it was legitimately available, as I've vague memories of liking the music in the film. I've seen the bootleg on sale at something like $33.

    Boots I won't touch anyway.

I think I'm the only one that thinks Kamen's score to LICENCE TO KILL is one of the best James Bond scores written. Sure, he is no John Barry but his control of the orchestra is amazing. I love big, loud, but organized film music and this one is truly BIG! The last track... "Licence Revoked" is 9:11 of pure fun. This score also contains one of the best renditions of the James Bond theme. It's very well recorded as well.

    Check it out!

    Erik

Crumbs...I forgot about LICENCE TO KILL. One of the better non-Barry Bond scores, I think (I've still not made up my mind about Arnold).

how can one have the "expanded" score to Frequency?

that implies it has been released by Varese (naturally), when in fact, it's only available on the DVD anyway.

    hehe. word games

Darn, I forgot about Kamen's License to Kill score as well, it's great! Sebulba, there's a 2 disc Die Hard complete??? I would be very interested in making a trade for this, I have the Die Hard promo but wouldn't mind having the complete score.

True. I refered to it as an expanded (probably shouldn't have), becuase it's not truly complete. There are 2 tracks on the DVD which Kamen speaks over.

There is a Kamen track on the DIE HARD DVD??? I didn't think there was an isolated score- Did I read Subulba's post right??

Anyways- lets not forget Kamen's greatest achievement- his Concerto for Saxophone!! His Concerto for Guitar is terrific as well, providing you can find the cd floating around....

Sebulba is referring to the Frequency score, which is isolated on the DVD, as I'm sure you know.
