Oh man, maybe I am wrong about that 3,323,232 times. That would make me, what, 252 years old? And the movie is only 25 years old. I am so full of **** .

Wrong ! De Palma said in a recent interview book he was very pleased by the score (he said he loved it). He never worked with Williams again because their respective schedules couldn't coincide.

He also mentioned he liked Goldsmith's work quite a lot but he never had the possibility to work with him (schedule problems again)

A De Palma film scored by Goldsmith, now that would be great !

For the billionth time, does nobody else think that the new "remaster" of The Fury's album tracks is weird? It can't just be me!

No. It SEEMED to me like the left channel had a few "dropouts", but it might be my headphones (they sometimes have problems on the left channel).

But I don't hear anything wrong with the reverb. It sounds as natural as the Arista, but with greatly increased dynamics and clearer woodwinds. Perhaps it's just your copy?

That is NOT what I remember from a quote in Soundtrack Collectors Quarterly many years ago where Denaggio said that DePalma was not impressed by Williams score and felt that Denaggio would have provided something far more appropriate?...one of em is telling porkies!?

If I still have that issue I'll see if I can find it out for the exact quote.

Either way I think Williams score is FANTASTIC!!

I remembered that interview too, and I was quite surprised to read De Palma's opinion.
Well, you get the Donaggio version on this one Hard to say where lies the truth.
I'm only quoting a recent interview book, published last year in France. Quite an interesting read: two french journalists took the "Hitchocock/Truffaut" approach and studied all his movies with him. I sincerely hope it will be published in English because it's worth it. I even managed to get my copy signed by De Palma himself !

The UPS horse-drawn wagon got here with my CD's today; I'm listening to THE BRIDE (beautiful!) right now, with THE FURY next in the cd-changer parade o' hits.

Presuming, of course, that THE FURY is not full of the sound of Howler Monkeys mating, or whatever is afflicting young Rutherford's disc ( ), I am happy with my purchases thus far. First time in a LONG while that LL and I have had some extra scratch for this type of thing.

    However.....

While I understand the need on Varese's part to put out titles that have some commercial viability ingrained into them, couldn't they stretch just a little bit to find some other, lesser known/loved titles? Yes, THE BRIDE certainly qualifies; but I want some other stuff. Certainly, there was no consensus or hue-and-cry from the masses for CHERRY 2000 Back In The Day....but they put it out there, anyway.

    MYSTERY, ALASKA, anyone?

I've given both discs a couple of listens and I'm pleased with my purchase. The album recording is the superior listen of the two discs, but I'm still happy to have both. The LSO version of "For Gillian" is quite beautiful and is my favorite track from either disc.

One thing I can't get over as I listen to the score are the countless Star Wars references. I don't think any other Johnny score sounds as Star Warsish as this one. (...besides the other Star Wars scores. ) That's not necessarily a bad thing, but it still surprised me.

What gets me about the Fury liner notes is the fact that Redman keeps referring to the theremin in the score... there IS NO theremin in this score! Electronics... yes, but it ain't no theremin!

Are you sure about this, Tonya? It sounds like a theremin to me...

TO ME it sounds like a real theremin was used for the OST - but the album version clearly has some sort of synthezised theremin sound.
Not that it sounds bad, though.

    Great score, by the way!

My Varese shipment just came in today, so I haven't heard the new Fury yet, but:

it is a cool feeling that a thread I started over a year ago has come back a year later!

Ah-hah! Here's another one, from the paranoid files. I have a pretty bad glitch in track 8 of the re-recording. It's during the carousel part. It's not just me. Listen to it.

I've discovered the film a while back. I would love to get the score on CD. Which version should I get? More specifically, is "Childress Goes to Hell" (as I renamed "Gillian's Power") on the original Varese CD? That cue is beautiful and eerie.

Get the DE, by all means. You get a few cues that aren't on the album version on the OST disc (including the theremin (?) that's missing in the LSO recording), plus wonderfully remastered sound on the LSO album.
