I just got an email news update from the London Symphony Orchestra. They'll be recording Elliot Goldenthal's Final Fantasy album this month.
Trevor Jones' latest (To End All Wars) is also scheduled to soon be recorded by the LSO.
In any case, this is great news for a soundtrack release.

Wasn't the Sinfonia of London doing The Mummy Returns? Not that it matters much considering how good both orchestras are.

Wistiti, it probably is the Sinfonia. I thought it was the LSO...There I go assuming again, Lancelot!!
Shame on me.

Yeeeeeeeeee-ha!That quite possibly means we're going to get a long FF album due to the lack of reuse fees! (Please let there be a 70-minute Goldenthal album... Please let there be a 70-minute Goldenthal album...)

I had to post, maybe I should change my S/N to "Final Fantasy Nut?"Tim, good choice on your NP, and YES. OH YES LONG FF CD
(And yes everyone I know me and Goldenthal have had out issues but...its "Final Fantasy!"
Also, the score will be recorded April 9-the 18th. And because its a Sony Picture, I can only guess Sony Classical for the music label. And I can also guess an early July release date before the films release.

I know this is going to upset a few of you out there, but I think I'm going along to one of the scoring sessions to spend a day with Goldenthal. We had him on our BBC show back in November and Sony, who are distibuting Final Fantasy, asked me if I'd like to attend. What do you think I said? The awkward part is that they want us to cover it as a news story and I don't know how that'll go over with my boss, who isn't really interested in that kind of thing, but, of course, I'm going to try my best to make him see the light. Even if we can't cover it, I'm sure they'll still let me go. Exciting, eh?

I'm very happy with the Sinfonia's performance of Judge Dredd, and this is the only album I have in my collection by this group. When I picked up this album at the CD store and noticed the credit, I didn't know who they were and I was afraid it might sound like the Hungarians.
To make a long story short, I'm very glad I bought it.

Actually, and I do hate to nitpick, but...The London Philharmonic is Shore's band, and the Sinfonia of London is the orch. that Bruce Broughton recently came to co-manage.

Yeah, and I find that pretty impressive. The Sinfonia are great, but the Philharmonic are an internationally famous world class ensemble, after all. Having them doing so much film music is great. (I had the fortune to attend a concert by them a couple of years ago, they performed RVW's 4th symphony, among others).

So, what's the best online store to buy all Final Fantasy game soundtracks and what do you recommend.... Did some research and ow god, there are so many.... piano suites???
I'd just like the symphonic scores from 1-IX (i believe IX is the last right?)And there is even more.... I am just going stir crazy here.....
So what version of FF should I get... Orchestral/Game version..../Piano version....
Better yet: where is the concise giude to FF soundtracks? Or who here has all discs? or most of them?Let's just say that I want flawless scoremusic.... just like OUTCAST VG Soundtrack.... orchestral with a hint of electronics here and there.... 16 bit game sound? no thank you :-))

So, after some research and listening to some MP-3 samples on Napster (Liberi Fatali)
I decided to buy the Final Fantasy VIII Game soundtrack (4discs)I am curious however... It seems FF-IV was FF-II in the U.S. Can anyone explain the relationships between the numbers? what do they mean.... Is the number just a version number like every other software packages, or does it stand for a new game adventure?
So far I am thinking of only Buying
FF-VIII
FF-VII
FF-VIX
Those are the series with better and more evolved music (at least from what I gather).
Ow dear GOD! I AM HOOKED! HOW IS THIS POSSIBLE?Are these three the best choices?

Foobsie,The place you want to go to is www.gamemusic.com to purchase your game soundtracks. Excellent place. Now, to guide you through all the varations of the game music CD's. A OST CD is the Original Soundtrack which is what you will want to get if you liked the exact music you heard in the game itself. They are the more expensive titles do to popular demand of course. Now, an Arranged or Piano Version is simply the themes and cues in the games only done with a piano or in the case of an arranged CD, remixed and changed completely. In other words not what you hear in the game so sometimes you may very well be disappointed. So what you need to get are the Final Fantasy OST's from I-IX. Good luck my friend and I hope this helps. Crono, feel free to add anything I may have forgotten.

I once had a URL for a German online shop that carries lots of game scores, including several Final Fantasy albums and Grim Fandango. Shipping to the Netherlands might be cheaper there than from the US, but I can't find the link anymore.NP: Sticky Fingers (The Rolling Stones)

Foobsie, the "Final Fantasy VIII orchestral Album: FITHOS LUSEC WECOS VINOSEC" is also worth EVERY, and I mean EVERY penny. Also keep in mind, some tracks in game are orchestral, but for the most part synth. The track "Liberi Fatali" is orchestral, so the rest of the soundtrack will NOT sound like that (bummer I know) but if I remember right, FF 8 has some very good music. FF 7 and 6 also has great music. FF 6 got me into game music, but its very SNES midi like. Also, the "Chrono Cross" OST is brilliant. I have some clips of you want them, that is also worth every penny.
You should also be aware that some sites, like express.com, dont give you the REAL CD, they give you copies (black market) they are called SM or Soy Mon CDs more cheap packaging and stuff, but they are cheaper, but I am a purest, I have to have the REAL thing, just an FYI though.

His opinions sometimes stray a little, but his heart is really in the right place here. Also, if you're going to buy FFVI/III - and you should! - then also buy the Chrono Trigger OST. For SNES MIdi, those two are just about tops. Of course, there's also Secret of Mana and Legend of Zelda: a Link to the Past, but they can be harder to get...
Also, in case noone else explained it, here's that whole FF numbers thing:
Entire Final Fantasy series (Japanese number/US number): I/I, II/-, III/-, IV/II. V/-, VI/III, VII/VII, VIII/VIII, IX/IX
What happened was that Final Fantasy I did horribly in the US, so II and III weren't released in North America. IV and VI were so successful overseas, though, that they were eventually released in the US, but to avoid confusion over the missing games, they re-titled them II and III. Why V never made it over is unclear, but in any case the original FFII, FFIII, and FFV were all rereleased along with FFI, IV, and VI on the Final Fantasy Anthology CD.posted 04-06-2001 12:04 AM PT (US)

http://www.gamemusic.com/dept/101/productdetail.asp?dept=101&cat=1011&it emid=1290&uid=1545200003111838And you could call "Final Fantasy I" in the US, the biggest "cult classic" ever created.
Fun side note, Square's other games before "FF" like "Tom and Huck" (I kid you not) did extremely bad. Square called it "Final Fantasy" because it was going to be their last game ever if it bombed, and the rest is history.
