The cover for Along Came A Spider is now viewable at www.varesesrabande.com . It looks pretty good. It shouldn't be a surprise for those who have seen the movieposter though.

    looks like a short CD.
but you never know, maybe there's only 30 minutes of score in the film.

    ha!

Yup, I'd say it's less than 40 minutes. 9 whole tracks.

    Thanks Varese.

I'm so happy that everybody keeps releasing those 70+ minute albums of James Horner.

My sister commented on the cover: "It looks like the cover of The Bone Collector." And ya know, she's right!

But where do all you guys see pics of the back cover, I.E., the tracklistings? I only could find a front.

    Just click on the line

"See back cover of the album"

    right under the pic.

It takes some eyestrain, the cues and times are a bit fuzzy, but it looks like a 35min. job to me.

    Chain Reaction 2 anyone?

Oh, duh. I was looking at the "upcoming releases" section instead of the featured soundtracks.

Unfortunately, it's likely to be barely 30 minutes.

Good news is: it should still be a great 30 minutes!

No complaints until we hear it! "The Haunting" was very short, and I liked it that way just fine.

Did anyone else notice that this new release gets a "deluxe-edition" style spine instead of the usual stool-sample-brown?

I could not tell how long the track are but that the name of the tracks. Track number five I can't make out its whole name.

I got to see this film! By the way Morgan Freeman is a Tennessee native like me so that is an added incenative to see it!

    Wedge and HAl,

ALL new Varese releases I can think of since at least End of Days have had that new design.

IF you rteally wanna get down to it, it's take-off on the old Sony Classical spines.

On the other hand, ST Insurrection is short, too, and I think I'd rather have the other half of the score on CD. So much good music in the film!

Then get it! The "expanded" boot is really, really good. It makes the listening experience much more complete (not to mention, alot more enjoyable!). While I'm talking about boots, I should point out that I didn't pay a dime for the thing!

As for Along Came a Spider... I'm sure what Varese gives us will be terrific, regardless of the length.

I will, don't worry. I was going to put it on my wish list for one of the next trades with Mark Hatfield, but of course he hasn't been around for some time. (BTW, has someone heard of him lately? After saying that things are going back to normal for him, he soon vanished again. Two days ago I noticed that his MM.com profile has been deleted??)

I think Varese should start manufacturing enhanced CDs to fill up the damn disc. Give us videos of interviews with the composer, pictures of the orchestra, etc. Less than half of the disc is filled with music, so I guess a good 300-400mb are at their disposal.

This is a total flip-a-coin deal, guys. Either the score will sound better this way (like "The Haunting") or worse (like "Insurrection.") I agree on principle that I'd rather have it all and only listen to what I like, but I'm not going to bust a gut before I hear the finished product.

Besides, if a shorter release doesn't substantially affect the musical merits and saves Varese money, then that's more money they can put towards future scores that might not be released at all -- or future expansions we've all been dying over.
