I heard that James Horner is scoring John Woo's new film, any info on this anyone?--Brian

Kyp, how can you speak such blasphemy based on rumors?! Heh.I haven't heard this, because I haven't been listening. I would hope John Woo gets out of Hollywood in order to return to his ways of great filmmaking. Working with James Horner would be a disastrous move. Considering the recent stardom he has achieved, Tan Dun would be an impressive AND interesting composer for John Woo. Woo, back to your roots. Either that, or get someone like Rachel Portman to score for you!

I think this is true. I have read that at various sources. Now the thing about JH doing Four Feathers, that's still a rumor.posted 03-26-2001 07:25 PM PT (US)

Hmm, I thought this was set in stone for a long while already.Woo has already "worked" with Horner, he tracked cues from ANOTHER 48 HRS. all over THE KILLER.

Rocco, it would be most awesome if film makers used previously recorded Horner music for their new films these days. Horner's new stuff is really getting on people's nerves!

Sorry PeterK, but SoundtrackNet announced (a confirmed fact) that Horner was scoring WINDTALKERS back in October 2000.

Do you think Horner can pull off Scottish bagpipe music in a movie with Native Americans and the Japanese? Actually I just forsee alot of the 'Willow' General Kale winds going off all over the place.NP : Somthing from Eyes Wide Shut

Oh, I get it. Yes, accept my apologies for having little to zero interest in James Horner's future assignments, whether they be Kyp rumors or confirmed SoundtrackNet facts.

I used to love John Woo, then came MI:2If Woo wants to coast down hill, I can't imagine a better composer to help ruin your film with. Our only hope is the 100 monkey theory, that now that enough people have come to see what a mess Enemy at the Gates is, the message will reach him subconsciously that the next score needs to something special.

I haven't seen HARD BOILED. Just strolled over to the IMDb and discovered that THE KILLER was made in 1989, hence could not have been tracked with ANOTHER 48 HRS. at all. I beg forgiveness for mistaking RED HEAT for this score even if they ARE damned near interchangeable.

Rocco, you don't need to beg for forgiveness. James Horner does. But we'll only give it to him when he challenges himself with a new film score assignment, instead of his now-typically old fashioned garage-mechanic servicing.

Long links that force me to horizontally scroll make me sad.Personally, I think Woo and Horner are made for each other. Both like to overuse unsubtle cliches in their respective mediums.
Can't wait to hear the 4-note evil trumpet motif as a flock of doves fly through yet another ring of fire... Or perhaps we can hear the theme that Sissel sings in Titanic as we're subjected to watching children play in slow-motion one more time...posted 03-27-2001 08:17 AM PT (US)

IF Horner decides to revisit his earlier works for this film (and I hope he doesn't), then it's more likely that he would use THUNDERHEART as inspiration much more than TITANIC.Do you guys even know what the film is about?
(And if you want to talk "rumors", I don't think you should really be blaming Woo for MI2 - a rather controlling producer/actor is more at fault, IMHO.)

Umm, isn't WINDTALKERS a new film score assignment? I'm hoping Woo DOES challenge him...

I think WINDTALKERS looks thrilling. By contrast, I still want to see ENEMY AT THE GATES, but am already disappointed in advance that, by reliable repute, it's more wall-to-wall Jamie muck. If it's a fanboy reaction, so be it. Even six or seven years ago, battle-weary mainstream film critics were already vocally getting irritated with Horner as well. See enough movies, pay enough attention, and this is going to happen. (Hell, I can be bitchy about film editors, if you want me to get REALLY arcane.
)Still haven't seen MI2, so can't comment. Woo's Hollywood career has been strange and checkered indeed, though ... the sadly compromised HARD TARGET (the script doesn't seem to have been much to begin with, but Van Damme helped make it an even bigger nightmare behind the scenes), the depressing BROKEN ARROW -- and then the BRILLIANT FACE/OFF (probably one of my favorite movies EVER).
If nothing else, Woo has gotten sensational work from Hans Zimmer and John Powell on the latter two films. He IS a musical director, or so it seems to me, and maybe Horner will rise to the occasion. God knows I hope so.

Dan the Man, you have misunderstood what I've written. That, or you think I'm a third grader (no offense, third graders).Of course Windtalkers is a new assignment. I hope Horner challenges himself with the new assignment. Heh, maybe I should challenge the fact that Windtalkers isn't even a project. That would be fun. Pointless. But fun.
And yes, people know what the film is about. They are just having a bit of fun. Tim's comment about "overused unsubtle cliches" was hilarious, not to mention the rest of his post. It's good to have a sense of humor.

"And yes, people know what the film is about."Nothing I've seen posted on this thread would indicate as such. Not to say that they don't know, which is why I asked. Tim's comment was amusing (but "hilarious"? not really), and it's fine to have "a bit of fun". And I apparently do have a sense of humor, since I continually find myself amused by these threads.
