Fellas, I'd love to actually "chat" with you, but I've been to a few internet chat rooms, and I find the experience highly frustrating.I don't like it.
Sorry.

Use the mIRC client... it's more reliable than the Java setup, which seems to work for some people and not for others.

Ok, starting in May, there will be an official "regular" time we can all meet for certain. I am thinking of scheduling this for either a Sunday or Monday evening. Any more thoughts?

Sunday meetings sound pretty cool. I am usually very busy on Mondays as I am sure others are as well. Winding down from the day and preparing for the next one. So Sunday sounds good to me. Anyone else agree? :-)

Mondays are better for me, since Holly works monday nights and Sunday night is always family dinner and a good tv night.

Mondays are better for me, but if that's evening over there, then what time would that make it over here in the UK?

For about 4 years, the chat was on Monday nights, which wasn't a big deal - I was never a fan of Ally McBeal. BUT, I do like my Monday Night Football....Maybe I will try both nights one week and see which one attracts the bigger crowd. I will let you know. A family crisis is in the works (relative had a stroke), so it may not be this coming weekend, or next.

Well, according to a post I just made, 2.29pm in the UK is 6.29am in the US (PT). So 7pm in the USA is 3am in the UK.Maybe we Brits should have a separate session when all the Americans are asleep?

The chat I used to host for the EU'ers was at 11am on Monday (mornings, here in the Pacific west), which is about 7pm local time in London. This will kick in once the USA one is fully underway. You like?

After a little chat DID work yesterday after all, I had an idea, and I think it's a great one. What about doing a "live analysis" of a film score? Meaning that we pick a score (not too long for the beginning, and something that most people know well and have in their collection), then we compile a small group of people (three to five perhaps) and pick a time, at which we all gather in a chat room (if the MM.com chat takes off, perhaps we could have a special room for that?), everyone starts the CD at the same time, and we talk about the music we here through the whole CD. Someone could log the whole chat and store it, perhaps edit it and post it here on the board, so that everyone can add their thoughts.
What do you think?

Terrific idea, Marian. Sounds like a twist on my "sync up" routine. All my online buddies know what I'm talking about... I send 'em mp3z, we countdown, and start 'em at the same time. We are then, for all intent purposes, listening to it together - and we're able to talk about it as it's playing.I hadn't thought about applying it to a large group, though.

Yes, that's exactly what I mean, Jeron.
The best thing would be if the log contains time indexes for every message, so one can re-read it and know about which part of the score we're talking. The best thing would be to write a program specifically for that purpose, but that's too much work I'm afraid. I'm not very familiar with IRC, are there clients that have this sort of logging functionality?NP: First Knight (Jerry Goldsmith)

If we're really going to do this, I think Chicken Run would be a great score for it. It's not exactly short, but there's so much to it that I think everyone involved could make lots of interesting comments. It's still different everytime I listen to it, and of course there are various brief hidden hommages to film score classics - the most obvious being Great Escape in the main titles, but I just found the Mission Impossible theme for the first time.

Hm, I never found Romeo & Juliet so far (BTW, just got a ticket for a performance later this month
)M:I pops up briefly in "A Really Big Truck Arrives".
I also believe that the Rambo fanfare appears when Rocky blocks the gravy squirter (?), but it's so short, and there's so much music going on at that point, that I'm never 100% sure.
What a score!
