The presentation was really nice - Perlman and Ma were great, as was Bill Conti. So what do you think?

Nowhere but on Oscar's very on stage was it more apparent how totally devoid of substance was Zimmer's work on "Gladiator." Without Lisa Gerrard's vocals and the lifts from Holst and Wagner, Perlman and Yo Yo Ma were left with nothing to play...and it was just a bunch of dum-dum-dums. - Ron PullimanRon said it all.
And I believe Zimmer was too ashamed to use the rip-offs from SECRET OF THE SAHARA (which is the only bereable thing on GLADIATOR "score) with Morricone himself siting on the audience...
Tan Dun did a nice job. At least the Academy members are now admiting they don't know **** about music, giving the last two awards to classical composers, which obviously make them look less pathetic...
But if the Oscar was something "serious", Morricone should win every year - only in 2000 he composed 4 scores that where better than anything wich were nominated: MISSION TO MARS, MALENA, VATEL and CONONE INVERSO.

I'm with Andre, but Malena was just too small a film to win the Oscar. Rocco called this way back citing Corigliano and the need of the Academy to court Concert composers. The minute Perlman and Ma showed up on stage, it was obvious who the Golden Dildo was going to. But that's OK since the Tan Dun score worked in that film. The shame is that Morricone hates to lose and he came to LA this time just to get trounced again poor man. Yet, they keep on nominating him, you know they want to give him one, what Ennio needs to do is get attached to a big film. Of course he did "score" Gladiator via a crib and even that didn't win anyone the award, so who knows.

"If the oscars were something serious--Morricone would win every year."Now there's logic for you. OK Andre, lets look back over the last 20 years. If you can find one score for each year by Morricone that deserves to be named best score for that year I'll line up with you. He's a talented man, no doubt about that, but your desperate devotion is laughable. (I'm guessing you were being facetious...but it's hard to tell with you!)
On the other hand, Tiger's win will softening the whining that would have ensued with many folks hereabouts.

This guy Quill should change his handle to Jiminy Cricket, since its obvious that he has nothing to say and stay on my back trying to refute my arguments - something he more than often can't.As for his ludicrous request, I would advise him to learn more about a composer or a subject before start posting nonsense. I would love to make such list, but I don't have much time for this and, as anyone inteligent knows, Morricone has composed more than 300 (some say 400) scores...
Cheers!

You're a funny little man Andre...I perfectly aware of the number of scores Ennio has composed...but your statement is a perfect example of how narrow-minded you truly are. If you really believe that Morricone deserves the Oscar every year (I thought you were kidding before...apparently not!) then I will leave you alone in your strange little world.
Cheers

Here goes Andre again bashing people
. Love his scores all you want, especailly the ones starting with Mission and ending with Mars(even though I despise it) but CTHD was a great score FOR THE FILM. I judge a score on how it works within the film not how it sounds on CD. Does Oscar do it the same way? I dunno, I do not care. He is a cheap shmuck. He usually picks the better scores though, so I will give him credit for that, and he chose correctly this time. CTHD is best, it won. End of story for me.

Kross, my lad, calling someone "Jiminy Cricket" is a compliment. But you should know that by now.Anyway, I agree with you about CTHD - it was indeed the best of all nominees, even being composed for such a lame movie.
MALENA is great, but not as good as MISSION TO MARS and VATEL, as you obviously know.
Now, should I write something ludicrous as "End of the story for me" or shoul I wait for his next offensive (tought disguised in "pcness") remarks?
Let me know, ok??

Confucious say bashing is like throwing a boomerang.....I ain't going after you Andre, but I am gonna hit you up for your claim that "if the Academy knew what it was doing, it would award Morricone every year." How's that? I enjoy a lot of his work, but not everything he ever wrote is worth the golden guy.
Or were you being a little silly when you said that?
Enlighten.

Was I being offensive? A merely asked a question in regards to a fairly questionable statement. You quite touchy for a guy who trounces on people anytime they make a positive statement about Zimmer or Horner, or if (gasp!) they pose a negative comment about Mission to Mars.
Get a grip...after all you would think that the guy who posts "Horner is an arrogant prick" and calls the oscars the "Golden Dildos" would be able to take a little bit of his own medicine.

Oh well, you should know me better now Pete.
The worst thing for a comedian is when he have to explain his jokes...But my job was somehow acomplished (see above the usual angry and misguided message from my nemesis "Jiminy Cricket" and Kross)
Cheers!

N.P: MISSION TO MARS (Morricone) - man, have I said before how this score is great? You should all get it!!!

Angry and misguided...hee...hee...think not.Maybe you should pluck that Golden Dildo out of your $*@%...you're obviously building up pressure.
