I was planning on picking this one up by Nick Glennie-Smith. Has anyone heard it yet? Is it worth $14.99?

    Thanks,

    Mark.

Yes I've heard it. I like it. It sounds a little better on CD than it did in the movie, I guess the movie had a poor dub.
The music sounds like Gladiator a bit, but not much. And most of it is fully orchestral with a choir and very epic sounding. I think its just as good as Man in the Iron Mask. Its pretty long too a little over 74min!

Right-click and choose save as here for a suite of Nick Gleenie-Smith's score to Attila - 4mb

Sounds like anybody who's a fan of The Rock or Man in the Iron Mask would absolutely love this one. I'm definitely picking it up.

...though Tim, I don't really hear the Gladiator element. Nick Glennie-Smith comes from the Zimmer mold - his style is definitely a reflection of that influence.

Gladiator's action/battle theme is nothing more than a rehash of his previous works - the notes are different, sure - but the psychological impact is the same. That's fine. Just an observation, as I will admit - I enjoy most all of his rehashes (moreso than Horner's). Aside from the ethnic instrumentation implemented in parts of Glennie-Smith's score, I think it's more like a foreign sister to Man in the Iron Mask.

Mark, I saw a good portion of the TV movie on this and the score seemed not too bad. Parts of it were pretty good. John.

What? Did you even watch the movie??? Gladiator was all over the place! Remember when Powers Boothe was in the dungeon telling the soldier to kill the emperor?

Keep up with me Tim... talkin' about the score, not the movie. I was simply stating that I didn't hear the Gladiator element persay within the score. It's more like Nick Glennie-Smith's previous works, albeit the fact that Glennie-Smith's style is an extension of Zimmer's. The same could be said for Mancina as well.
