"Who wants to drive a few miles than wait around to buy an 8 dollar ticket to sit with a load of smelly morons with cell phones to watch a 2hr plus COMMERCIAL? EXCEPT for them 27 year old aint it cool news high school drop out but somehow experts of film nerds who wet themselves at The Rock and Pearl Harbor ("Explosions in creamy photography with propellers chop chopping away-- ben affleck is god! zimmer gives us all a woody!" yeah those idiots) and proclaim Gladiator a new church. Oh I'm sorry, some of us are ad fans!"

Sorry abut the delayed reply. See, I've been busy. So now,to correct you, try 27-year old creative writing/film theory degree possessor (from "the Harvard of the midwest"- Miami University) who had been unble to post earlier because he was detained producing and editing at a national post-house - his place of employment and who's work spans from E-TRADE to Puma to the most popular content on Atom Films.com.

This "idiot" likes to defend his opinions and often discusses film with such friends as the producer of the acclaimed FIGHT CLUB DVD. This is the company I keep. People who know about this business and don't make broad generalizations in order to make themselves feel better about hating something that is popular.

I will say it again. To this, "Bay" idiot, VISUALS (a.k.a. "creamy photography") DO MATTER!!! We must pay attention to these visuals because they set up the trends that dictate what we see in commercials, music videos and films. Yes, I think ads are important. That's why they cost 3 million plus on the Superbowl. One ad proves this - the origin of the bullet-time trend in the GAP Swing Dancing commercial which gave us THE MATRIX and now has spawned every music video, commercial and movie utilizing this effect.

Yes, I am a fan of the ROCK and ARMAGEDDON, Zimmer and Horner, and GLADIATOR because I'm not that guy who hates what is popular because it's popular. I don't consider BLADE RUNNER to be a great film because I'm told it IS a cult classic by FANGORIA or Entertainment Weekly and that it's not popular to like it. I can explain why I like it. My reasoning. And one of the big reasons is the visuals of this movie, not so different from the visuals I enjoy in the same man's movie GLADIATOR. Conversely, I am not a subscriber to puerile entertainment that is "cool" because it's rebellious and cultish, like ROCKY HORROR PICTURE SHOW and most of Ben Affleck's (who I also don't subscribe to, nor think is a god, or for that matter, an actor) comic buddy, Kevin Smith's work (with the exception of CHASING AMY). It's this kind of attitude that replaces a show like 120 MINUTES on MTV in favor of shows like JACKASS. It's banality... Or dare I mention the last STAR WARS embarrassment, in which George Lucas toppled almost every bit of the magic he created with the first three movies for the sake of his love of computer technology. And explaining the FORCE through biophysical boundaries. Give me a break.

Which bring us to: what churches and gods do you proclaim? Teach the wayward Bruckheimer/Bay, cell phone, ad idiots. If your going to come to the table so boldly with your arguments, defend them. I like debating with people who can do that. And when you do proclaim these churches, ask youself if it's because you believe in them or just cause it's cool to hate the stuff everyone else likes and like the stuff that everyone else has a hard time getting into.

Run, my lemmings. Run. Over the cliff you go. At least you were spitting at everyone along the way.

On March 25th, 2001, GLADIATOR won Best Picture for the 73rd Academy Awards.

No further questions, your honor. The defense rests...
