I just finished watching Lethal Weapon 3 the other night, and man, it just caused me to drool over the music that never made it onto any of the soundtracks... There are some AMAZING action pieces!!! And I know they've been used in most, if not all, of the Lethal films... the scene with the armored trucks in the begining?? WOW-Between Kamens brass and driving rythems, and Clapton's and Sanborns wailing, it just makes your heart race! And the scene at the hockey game? Now I know this was used in the first AND second films, and could possibly be the best piece of action music ever written by Kamen, if not ever... It amazes me that the cue never made it onto any of the soundtracks- why not?? It is a staple theme of the series, and to have it in all the films and never make it onto a soundtrack? They've included cues that repeat- like Daryl Dies, which was also on the first soundtrack... and how many times can we rehash Rigg's theme???
I wish there was some way to get some of the missing music- with the talents of Kamen, Clapton, and Sanborn, how can this music just waste away in some wharehouse?
John FAny thoughts???

John, I know exactly which music you mean - it's absolutely excellent, isn't it!!! I'd pay an obscene amount of money to track down that elusive action track (Riggs chases Mr Josua at the end of LW1, Riggs hangs onto the car in LW2). I doubt we'll ever see them released commercially, which is a damn shame. Don't even get me started on Road House...

Don't even get me started on Road House...It should be mentioned that Kamen had help from at least two other composers on the first Lethal Weapon. Can't remember who they were right now but the big action cue where Riggs chases Mr. Joshua was NOT written by Kamen. I think it was Bill Ross or Don Davis.

Huh?? Are you serious? I find that hard to believe because we all know Kamen is capable in composing music like that... after all he did Die Hard before it, and no help there...
Hmm....

That might explain why that cue is not on the soundtrack as well as some of the other missing action cues.

Is it just me, or that piece of action music during LW3 for the hockey game found on the Die Hard promo, near the end of track 7 where McClain is preparing the C4 to drop it down the elevator shaft? I think it is, it's a pretty damn close match if it isn't.Rich D.

William Ross was the additional composer on Lethal Weapon. Don Davis was definetly involved in Die Hard 2 and wrote some really good orchestrations for it. I definetly do know that there was a ton of uncredited orchestrators on the score. LW1 definetly needs to be released on CD with the Nightclub cue, The Freeway Shootout between Riggs and Mr.Joshua and that awesome fight in the end.Lethal Weapon 2 is another story. The album is mostly impressions of the film score, but they aren't what's featured in the final film. And I'd love to have this one because there's a ton of terrific percussion and action music that would make it more than thesable for a new album to be released.
Lethal Weapon 3 is a terrific score. But there's one problem, it's mostly music from the original Lethal Weapon along with some unsued music from that film. If you've seen the director's cut of LW1 you know what i'm talking bout. This is one score I'd love to have for the action cues mainly.
Lethal Weapon 4 could've been released and should've been released. But it's another case a mainly reusing the music from the first 3 movies with new orchestrations. The best part bout this score, is the music for Jet Li's superhuman villan. Awwww...man that's really the reason this score should've come out.
When LW4 was released Warner Bros. had announced they were planning to release a CD featuring all four scores and this never came to be. A shame because that would've been the best way to release them.posted 02-25-2001 02:56 PM PT (US)

I know the cue you're talking about. It always sounded to me like an orchestral version of the children's boastful "Nyah Nyah Nyah Nyah Nyah" chant, which fits the twisted Looney-Tunes aesthetic of Kamen's approach.I love this cue and the fact that it appears in all of the Lethal Weapon films in one form or another makes it all that much more frustrating that it was never included on the albums.

Tell me bout it Swash...but isn't Varese planning to do a compliation of the Lethal Weapon films. I do know bout the Die Hard Trilogy which they are doing, but I also heard they're also doing the LW series as well is this true I wonder and if it is that would be really excellent.

wow... Thanks for the info on the music- very insightful... I love William Ross and had no idea he had a hand in the first Lethal film. I was under the impression that the Directors cut of the first film had tracked music from Lethal 3 in one of the restored scenes... I would think the music is from Lethal 3 because the deleted scenes from the first film would have had no music... so they just drew upon the 3rd film for a snippet of underscore...
You would think that more of this music would see the light of day seeing as 3 heavies in the music industry collaborated together-Kamen, Clapton and Sanborn... one of the many mysteries behind this hobby of ours...
