The composer from the game is composing the score for the film. So, what is the music from the game like?

While, I have only played the first game. I must admit, that he better have improved or it won't be much an score that I would want to acquire.

Some of the music was rather good, but most seemed to just be there, without adding much to the overall experience within the game. I am looking forward to hearing what he has come up with, but this is an case where I would prefer someone like Goldsmith, Poledouris or Arnold scoring said film!

Either way, I'll wait until I hear it to decide one way or another!

    Regards,
    Sean Robert Abbey

I'm with sabbey, If the same guy that scores the game series is scoring the film I will pass up the score. I remember it being mainly ambience with no theme at all. In fact, i don't remember hardly any music used in the Tomb Raider series. If the same guy is scoring the film, we're in trouble, end of story.

    Yeah, David Arnold!

I thought they were still getting a composer, why are they going with the guy that did the music for the game. That kind of bites.

Yeah. I'm glad they didn't make that mistake with the Final Fantasy movie and went with Goldenthal.

I can see Goldsmith scoring this one. Lots of opportunites for unique action music.

I know when a great composer can top another. Though I still believe Rabin is incredible

...and I don't like the sound of that.

Even though I look forward to hearing what Goldenthal comes up with. I'd bet if Nobuo Uematsu was doing the Final Fantasy film, it would be one hell of an listen. More than Tomb Raider will most likely be, if the game is any indication.

In most cases, I don't think it would be an mistake to have the game' composer taking on the film version as well. There is a lot of good video game music out there, it's just that the composers don't get enough chances to make something like Outcast or Medal of Honor on many occasions.

Fortunately, this is improving though. In the case of the Tomb Raider film, I hear the film makers want it as close to the game as possible. Even one of which who wanted to have the cast picking up items just as in the game. Luckily that was vetoed!

Anyway, taken in this perspective, perhaps this means "they" wanted the same sort of music during the film, and not the composer?!

    Sean Robert Abbey

    Sean,

I agree. Nobuo Uematsu could do a hell of a film score, judging from his outstanding Final Fantasy music.

The only reason I said this is because Brian commented about Tomb Raider that it bites that the game composer will score the movie, and at the same time, he's been somewhat mad that Goldenthal is scoring the Final Fantasy movie and not Uematsu.

I am sure Uematsu could do a great job, but, to be honest, I wouldn't look forward to his score as much as I am for Goldenthal's.

You guys haven't heard Final Fantasy music until you've heard Final Fantasy Symphonic Suite, it was recording during a performace of the Tokyo Symphony Orchestra and has arranged music from FF and FFIIj and even though I never played any of those games there are some really great reconizable classic FF arrangements in there, The Prelude, Main Theme of FF etc. Highly recommended if you haven't already heard it!

Anyways not to stray too off topic here, I can honestly say I can't remember the Tomb Raider games having any music whatsoever. And if this is indeed true, then I know once score that I'll be passing on come this summer. Hopefully John Powell is still attached like previously reported.

Oh okay! As much as I am looking forward to Goldenthal's score. Hearing the orchestral arrangements of Uematsu's work, it would have kick major butt!

Either way, I doubt Uematsu would have even done the film either way, since I hear he does not like working within the film industry. And has said he is against doing film scores. I hope I am mistaken, though do recall reading that somewhere. Oh well!

Arnold really needs another adventure score to shine... I also think Poledouris would be fantastic, those would be my two main choices... Goldsmith would be OK, I prefer he'd do something more serious though...

Hey Scott - Hasta is a converted Goldsmithian. He used to think Zimmer was all-mighty. Regardless, he's turned an ear one of the top 2's! Who cares which one?! It's miraculous, no matter what!

I have NEVER played any Tomb Raider games, and thus have never heard any of the music from them. Moreover, the movie looks like a waste of celluloid (and a waste of Angelina Jolie) to me.

However, if it is true that Nathan McCree is scoring the movie, that doesn't sound too bad. I am familiar with only one score of his: a Sega CD game called "SoulStar." I enjoyed the music in it very much... great Williams-like space adventure writing which was unfortunately cheapened by the synthesizers it was performed on. With an orchestra, I think it would have been spectacular. Not at all the type of thing which would be appropriate for Tomb Raider, but i'm just saying that I'd have confidence in his abilities.

Tomb raider the movie... what a joke. Another one of those movies/games bloated with too much cool sh-t, like Daikatana. Or, "a series with 5 too many sequels" as my friend Zuofu would say, describing resident evil

This movie's going to be so undeniably bad...

    We all remember Daikatana...
