Since Horner is the posterchild (so it seems) for plagerism these days, I just wanted to know what you guys think about this little score. I'm not quite sure if the title was river runs black or acutally river runs through it. I think it was the black one. Anyways, this is Horners very first fully electronic score and I love it. I don't have it anymore, unfortunatley, but if anyone has it or knows where I can find it, please let me know.

The movie is pretty good as well. Kinda strange but interesting. As far as the score is concerned, haven't listen to it in a long time, but it is very good and so unlike Horner.

    What you guys think.

The score by James Horner for Where the River Runs Black is almost a new age relaxation or meditation CD. The sound ranges from deep deep bass to almost white noise tinkles at the top of the scale. The stereo effects slide the sound from speaker to speaker and synth vocals add a spiritual aspect. Multi-layered and detailed from minute to minute it is unconventional in that there is not the typical development and interweaving of motifs and themes.

Good score, unfortunately I only have it on LP Scott! Wasn't this released around the same time as Horner's other synth score The Name Of The Rose?

You know of all the crap that Horner's written, this one score I really do miss. I too had this score and at first found it to be well, boring to tell you the truth. But after a bunch of listens, I really did like it alot I might add. I remember the movie somewhat and it didn't deserve the score the Horner gave it since the film went quickly to cable in 1986. The Ballet cue is really excellent and it's in fact one of my favorite themes from the score itself. I think Footlight records here in the city has it and it's rather expensive. I think bout 30.00 maybe, that's if they still have them.

When I initially picked up this CD, I thought it was a big pile of crap. I was so used to Horner's big orchestral efforts that I wasn't prepared for this one. When Horner got into his big Minimalist phase (Thunderheart, Unlawful Entry, Pelican Brief, Bopha), I went back to this score and really fell in love with it. I remember, one night, I had this writing assignment due the next morning in my creative writing class, and I put this score on and, no kidding, I cranked the assignment out in a half hour. A big thumbs up to this score...
