A lot more would know about him if he wasn't forced out of the Chicken Run assignment, that much is true!If anyone has his promo from several years back, Nott is good with a lot of music styles and varieties, and manages to keep his own stamp on things. A Man of No Importance was released almost 7 years ago here in the USA... a very overlooked, decent score.

I go with what the K-Man says, I thought it was a real shame that Nott didn't get his big break with Chicken Run, I'm not putting down Gregson Williams fine effort on the film which I thought was damn good, but it's not as if he needed a leg up to the big time...this could have been Julian Nott's break into mainstream films, and from what I've heard from the man so far I think he deserves it! Hopefully someone will notice this fine composers talent sooner rather than later!!NP : The New Moon In The Old Moon's Arms - Kamen

I'm pondering whether or not I should get "A Man of No Importance". There's a copy available at a nearby record store, and I'd like some opinions. I'm interested in the CD because:a) Nott's Wallace and Gromit scores have not yet been released. b) His promo is, I imagine, extremely difficult to come by. c) There is no other way to access his music on CD. Rather coincidentally, just this week I purchased a score by Mr. Nott - A Respectable Trade, from a BBC series a year or two back. I've had a few new scores recently, so I've not had the chance to listen to it properly - just a few cues - but from what I've heard it is rather good stuff. I'll let you know a bit more about it when I've had a good listen to it.I was just thinking how much I'd like a CD of Wallace & Gromit - & then, whaddya know, from his website (Thanks, Marian): "Coming Soon On CD : Wallace & Gromit : The Music" Excellent news!!!!!! np nothing

Pete, don't get to excited yet. According to a post at the same thread at FSM, it's been saying "coming soon" for months. Let's hope it DOES come out soon!NP: Anton Bruckner: Symphony #7 (Kölner Rundfunk-Sinfonie-Orchester, Günter Wand)

! What does "upcoming" mean, though? I'd have expected them to still need a few years, but if Nott has already signed up - does that mean we'll get to see it quite soon?

Since the last time I posted in this thread, I picked up Nott's scores "A Man of No Importance" and "A Respectable Trade". Solid works, both, but I would love a CD of his "Wallace & Gromit" scores.

Blast from the past...Over the past year, I have been able to find some interesting stuff by him. "The Very Hungry Catterpillar" is an interesting score... for a childrens book. Side A of the audio tape (apparently it does not exist on CD) has the music and narration, side B only has the music. It's very melodic and pastoral. Somewhat of a cross between Al Newman and Georges Delerue. A Christmas Carol is the latest to be released. Skip the crummy X-mas songs, and enjoy the great Nott score. Scrooge gets an uptempo parodic theme. Dickens gets a majestic theme reminiscent of "Pomp and Circumstance". And there is one of the loveliest piano pieces. I still put off getting the complete "Man of No Importance" as there are some themes from that on the promo album. And if you can get it, the promo album is excellent. Covers a wide range of musical styles, but features prominently Nott's sense of Delerue-style themes and melodies.

a) How much music is on this complete "Man of No Importance" CD, or is complete just a hyperbolic title for the CD that I have (which contains 20 minutes of Nott's score)? and b) Funny you should mention Delerue. After hearing "Joe Versus the Volcano" and giving "Man..." another listen days later, I heard some wonderful similarities; not rip-offs, mind you, but both scores featured lush string work that you can get lost in. I hope that Nott gets really big assignments in the near-future. He is very deserving of them.

Answer to a):«Complete» is hyperbolic for "commercial" release, which probably contains about 20 or so minutes of score plus some other stuff.
