O.K. I picked up a cheap VHS copy of Slipstream about a year ago and actually got round to watching it a couple of weeks ago. I'd heard a lot of "bad" reviews about this movie and on first viewing my question was why all the criticisms? I found it quite entertaining, different, surprised (Bill Paxton was the lead in an early career role) and overall enjoyed it. Mark Hamill, as usual, gave a top-notch performance and the sadly late Bob Peck was superb and gave a very moving performance as the fugitive android. All in all a welcomingly "different" film and my hat goes off for any film which is fresh and original in its approach. But where my greatest delight came from was in Bernstein's score. What a treasure it is. From his triumphant martial music, reminiscent of Steve Mcqueen's action cues from "The Great Escape" down to the lyrical and beautiful "Love" or "Pastoral" theme. Bernstein makes wonderful use of the Ondes Martenot (have I spelt it right?) which is very reminiscent of the theremin, but has a sweeter sound. I fell in love with the score instantly and ended up recording all the music cues onto a tape which I have been listening to incessantly for two weeks. Does anyone know if a score was ever released? I've tried a search at the usual haunts but cant find it. I'd imagine there wouldn't be a score released as the film was a bit of a flop wasn't it? A great score! Thanks for any info! There is a bootleg to Slipstream, with poor/average sound. I forget how many tracks, but I remember only liking the first and the last ones I don't think it has any official track names, but I am sure someone has some!

ok, this probably wasn;t much help at all

Just a piece of wacky trivia, but I remember seeing in the end credits a reference to the soundtrack album being exclusively available in Woolworths. Really. I did see that. I'm not going mad.

Obviously the Woolworths deal fell through. Go figure.

LOL Steve that's funny... I have this boot and it isn't that bad. We're lucky that the score is even out there mainly because of the reuse fees for releasing the score. Since Bernstein recorded with the then prestigeous Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, the reuse fees to release this score would be unthinkable unfortunetly. And that is why you haven't seen his other scores like a complete Heavy Metal, Saturn 3, An American Werewolf In London, and Five Days One Summer unreleased or in re-recorded form. And that's sad because we want this stuff don't we. Hopefully, Elmer will correct this on his own label and I'm pretty sure he will because he knows how much people love his music and will eventually breakdown and give it to us which is a great decision on his part.

An expanded Heavy Metal would not be subject to the same rigorous re-use fees as the other scores owing as to the fact that the Elektra LP release clears 37 minutes of them away.

The reason why an expanded Heavy Metal has not appeared (officially) is because it probably would not be profitable.
