    Music (No big surprise):
    Chocolat
    Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon
    Gladiator
    The Patriot
    Malena

    Songs:
    Meet The Parents
    Wonder Boys
    Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon
    Dancer In The Dark
    The Emperor´s New Groove

    I´m satisfied.

And, yes, Gladiator can be nominated.

You were only off by a few minutes. It's okay.

I always wanted to be the first one to announce something. It took almost 2 years on here, but I finally did it!

Nyah Nyah!!! (but in a fun way)

    Kevin

Great. Another popularity contest I won't watch.

Otherwise I would be forced to see HANZINZER, the almost bald cheesy thief noisemaker, proud of himself with that statue of a naked guy holding a shovel which the SOB members of the academy will give to him for cloning Holst, Wagner, Morricone and GM Pick-up Trucks' TV commercial jingles, while Morricone himself - the most important film composer of our time - stays wisely at his home, feeding his cats.

    Puke!!!

    Bitter...bitter...

While I in no way this Gladiator was the best score of year...it is quite superior to The Patriot. William's score has its moments, but overall its inclusion is ridiculous! Especially when we consider that it might have taken Hollow Man's spot...or (gasp!) Mission to Mars.

When did anyone ever put stock in the oscars anyway?

For once Disney has failed to be nominated in the score category!

Year 2000 was a crappy year for film music, anyway (IMHO) -- Great year for Re-recordings and re-releases, though!

I would have liked to have seen Chicken Run up there, though.

I agree to an extent with Quill. I think one of the score nominee should have been replaced with the Hollow Man. That is a fine score that rival Goldsmith's best from the late 70's and early 80's.

I noticeed two things all the score nominees have in common. All have either famous soloist or the compser is not American. I think that if a score has either or both like Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon it will be nominated and can win. I think that Tan Dan's Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon will win. I doubt that Zimmer will win again for Gladiator. I probably shouldn't say this but I didn't like Gladiator's score very much.

Blah. How boring. If the scores for The Patriot, Chocolat, and Malena had the exact same music by no-name composers attached to them, there would be no way they would've been nominated. The Patriot and Chocolat are incredibly weak. Malena's pretty good, but would never have been noticed if it weren't for Morricone's name.

Tan Dun is quite deserving of the award and I have a feeling he'll be the one that gets it. The Academy always picks the foreign guy or the composer with few films under his/her belt. Or in some instances both.

I'll also be in the minority in this group and root for Hans as well- if for anything- just to watch Gerrard act like a freak onstage again.

I still don't care for Hollow Man. I like the main title, but the rest of the music does nothing for me.

I rented the movie a few weeks ago, and I thought it sucked.

The nominations simply confirm a relatively bad year...a sign of what happens when studios sink all there money into big budget pictures. And also a sign of a year filled with more songtracks.

At any rate, Tan Dun's score is most deserving. All the others are not "original" in any sense. "Chocolat" was fine, but "Bagger Vance" was a better score. "Gladiator" is an amalgam of stuff as others have pointed out, but is not really that great anyway. I have not heard or seen "Malena" but from most quarters, it is "Vatel"(?) which I hear has the superior score of the 2. "The Patriot" was not really all that impressive (and I am a Williams fan).

Morricone may get the Oscar more as a career "award" than as anything else.

If Tan Dun should win, that would be 2 "classical" composers in a row receiving Oscars...interesting trend.
