Just wondering if anyone's heard this new(ish) Prometheus release. My collection is pretty short on Alex North (I have 2001), & would like to get some more of his (I think Cleopatra will be in my collection when it's released, though).

So what do you reckon of it? Is it a good score to add to my collection?

    I highly recommend it.
The music is a little "thorny" but an exceptional work. If you have ever heard BITE THE BULLET, it sounds a bit like the "Badlands" cut.

if you're short on Alex north scores, you need to get everything you can.

    also get the aforementioned
    Bite the Bullett. It's fun.

Some of the Africa music was in 2001. And some more of it was in Good Morning, Vietnam.
Some of his better stuff includes:

    1. Shoes of the Fisherman
    2. Agony and the Ecstasy
    3. Viva Zapata
    4. Death of a Salesman
    5. Rose Tattoo
    6. Penitent
    7. Spartacus
    8. Misfits
    9. Cheyenne Autumn
    10. Dragonslayer
    11. Long Hot Summer
    And some others. John.

Ford T. read our post here and sent me a note:

the 2001 recording a few years ago had the theme from Africa on it by mistake. It seems the piece got mixed in with 2001 and they thought it was from that film. That is why they sound so much the same. Best, John.

What's that, John? Are we talking about the Goldsmith conducted Varese CD which was so lovingly produced? They made a mistake and put music from Africa on it? Skeg ma' doobries if that's true!

I wanna know whose arm I have to twist to get a complete edition of The Shoes of the Fisherman. This is a tremendous score, and sounds really fine in the film.

I know there was an LP and I saw a German CD (a bootleg?) at SuperCollector while there a few weeks ago. The CD was essentially the same IIRC as the LP that I own, so I declined to get it.

Pete M -- in case you're not aware of it, you can listen to some fairly generous sound clips from "Africa" at www.soundtrackmag.com

Yeah, I know the sound clips are there, but for some reason my computer won't let me download them (I have the same problem with the clips from FSM).
Hence why I was wondering what it was like.

Incidentally, which bit of Africa is in 2001 (or is it the other way round?) Is it the last track (of 2001)?

    Oh. Me bad double poster.

Although, for some reason, I am now able to download the samples from there. Strange.

Still can't get samples from FSM. Weird...

Yes, it is the last cut on the 2001 CD. I think it is labeled Main Theme. It is actually the Main Theme to Africa.

I've always thought that last track was VERY strange on 2001. It sounds like an orchestral part of a Broadway show.

In fact, if I'm right about it sounding like something from Broadway, won't it sound equally weird on Africa?
