    Yah!!!!

I won Non Ho Sonno (I refuse to Americanize the title...bloody yanks ) on ebay for 6 bucks! I knew I waited for a reason...I hate to break my streak of not having seen the film, and posting in this haven o' Argento, but oh well...it was bound to happen. I'm sure the album will be quick to follow.

    Viva giallo!

Cool! I really hope you enjoy it - it's not up to Deep Red standards, but there's some great stuff in it - & of course a cracking score! Which version did you get? Mine's the Italian, which has both English & Italian dubs, although the extras are Italian only.

    Welcome to Page 5! hehe

I got the standard, US - Artisan DVD of it, since I'm still in the dark ages and have no multi - region player, and can only drool at the good stuff I would be watching with one

I know their inexpensive, but its just more electronic junk that would clutter up the house, and that's ALL I need!
I'm just dying to hear/see some Argento/Goblin giallo though! I don't think there is much in the way of extras, but if I understand right, it's uncut.

Also won Let Sleeping Corpses Lie on ebay this week, and am dying to see that again as well....I remember it was good, but it's been a long time. And while I'm here, you know something - Fulci's Zombie will be forever watchable in my book....ran about 45mins. of it before bed last night, and the film is so goofy in parts, gripping in others - it just holds up very well. I would have replaced certain things in Frizzi/Tucci's score but oh well. I hope AB revisits this title someday, since the current transfer we have here is horrendous....think of how the new Signs DVD looks, only this is 10 times worse Ick....

I think it is uncut, but it's also P/S only!!! Thankfully it was only shot in 1.85:1 or similar, so you're not missing too much of the picture, but it's still a pain!

Ah, that's just been released over here as Living Dead at the Manchester Morgue. It's got some really great bits in it, though some of the accents are quite entertaining. Some of was shot in the Lake District really close to where I used to live, & it's quite disorientating to see some of those places not just in a film, but in a film about zombies! I love that!

I haven't seen that one for ages, I think it may have been the first Euro-horror I ever saw, but I've only seen it that once. I remember really liking some bits, but finding much of it quite slow & tedious. I keep meaning to get the DVD of since it's so cheap, but never seem to get around to it. The UK release is by Vipco, & by all accounts the picture is even worse than the AB, & it might even be cut. I did get quite a big package of Fulci of Christmas though - the double packs of Beyond/House by the Cemetery, & City of Living Dead/Don't Torture a Duckling. I love CoLD to pieces, & was very impressed by DTaD which I hadn't seen before. HbtC was reasonably fun but is probably my least fave Fulci to date. And how irritating is "Bob"? I've not watched The Beyond yet, but I've not been too impressed by the cut/P&S VHS copy I've got. I'm hoping that this disc will let me see why people rate this one so highly. I love the Frizzi score to that one, though.

Well, I have now watched The Beyond DVD, & whilst I certainly liked the film a lot more than before, I still think it's kinda overrated.
Anyway, I have a huge raft of simply amazing Italian horror news for you! (info from Fangoria.com)
First, Argento's The Card Dealer starts shooting on Monday, starring Stefania Rocca (most recently seen as Mina in the Italian miniseries IL BACIO DI DRACULA/THE KISS OF DRACULA), Liam (DOG SOLDIERS) Cunningham, Silvio Muccino, Vera (SCARLET DIVA) Gemma. Oh, & to make up for the lack of Asia - Fiore Argento is appearing too!!!!! Rocca plays a Roman policewoman who is forced to play Internet poker with the title serial killer. If she loses, she witnesses the maniac’s tortured victims having their throats cut with a Stanley knife via webcam in explicit close-up detail. Rocca teams with British cop Cunningham to find out the identity of the murderer.
Argento says: “THE CARD PLAYER is something I’ve never done before—a complete police procedural focusing on forensic science but laced with spaghetti Western imagery" He also says the violence will be very strong, & almost pornographic (effects by Sergio Stivaletti), & that part of the reson he's shooting in Rome not Venice is that there's a lot of chases with the camera moving around a lot, & it wasn't practical with all the canals & tourists. It won't be the tourist-y Rome, but the hot, busy bustle akin to Crystal Plumage. Photography is by Benoit Debie (Irreversible). No news yet on the composer, but Simonetti is rumoured. Dario also wants the music to be “a disco carpet, a house garage soundtrack that is continually in the background fading in and out at the right moments to heighten the fright”. The 1st AD will be Roy Bava, Lamberto's son.
After The Card Player has wrapped (hopefully July for an October premiere), Dario will head straight into another Giallo, the long-delayed Occhiali Neri/Dark Glasses, which is apparently about a prostitute who adopts a Chinese orphan boy before being blinded in an accident. The duo then track down a maniac responsible for a spate of hooker murders due to her senses being heightened.
After that it seems he wants to get back to making a supernatural film, in the Inferno style. Obviously it's too far away to say much but it seems unlikely to be the third three mothers film. He says: “It’s time for me to make another supernatural story in the tradition of INFERNO. When I was in a deep depression over the DARK GLASSES fiasco, I had a dream that I was visited by my late father Salvatore. And his presence inspired the story. It’s about a young boy—me, I think, from years ago—and will be a fusion of autobiography, horror and fantasy.”"

Now, as if all that Dario goodness wasn't enough, Sergio Stivaletti is planning to direct a remake of The Golem (hopefully starring Bruce Campbell!), Lamberto Bava is shooting a new horror in London in September, & Luigi Cozzi is set to direct his self-scripted "Guardian of Evil", about a group of young tourists in Rome who discover an ancient talisman that could signal the end of the world. The prop Cozzi will use for the ancient artifact is the Anubis cross that late goremeister Lucio Fulci had built for his aborted remake of THE MUMMY.
Even better news, is that Michele Soavi will at last be returning to features!!!!!! First up is a dark thriller ARRIVERDERCI AMORE, CIAO/GOODBYE MY LOVE, GOODBYE, based on the Massimo Carlotto bestseller. After that there's a choice between two scripts by the producer Gianni Romoli, who wrote Dellamorte Dellamore & The Sect. One is called Meridian Demons, about Italian Vampires who hunt their prey during the afternoon Siestas. The other is a remake of the 1941 film LA CORONA DI FERRO/THE IRON CROWN, which would be one of the biggest budgeted Italian films of all time, a fantasy/horror spectacle Romoli describes as being like an Italian "Lord of the Rings"!

    Woooooooaaaaahhhhhhhh!!!!!

According to the Daemonia mailing list, it's now official: Il Cartaio/The Card Player will have music by CLAUDIO SIMONETTI.

Anyway, caught Four Flies on the big screen last week with Richard Street. Thoroughly enjoyed it - so great to be able to actually see what's going on in some of those scenes!!! The print was quite heavily cut unfortunately, but it was still a really great experience!

And according to guest host Alan Jones, who introduced FOUR FLIES at the festival, Dario's supernatural movie (after DARK GLASSES) could be the third Mothers film.

FOUR FLIES I enjoyed immensely. I didn't notice much in the way of cuts, except due to the print not being in very good shape.

There was quite a bit cut, a lot of it not violence. For example, after the rehearsal at the start, there's a really lengthy scene where Tobias follows the shady guy across town before getting to the theatre (there're some famous stills from this), but this version just cut straight to the theatre. There were quite a few other bits like that, but I ca't remember precisely off the top of my head what they all were.

    Pete!

I can't believe it, I missed a couple updates there...that is great news indeed, and I hope Simonetti delivers something even close to Non ho Sonno. Ditto for Soavi directing again....and thank goodness there should be a better version of Four Flies on the way! My boot is pretty unwatchable, but I've always liked the film(it's arguably the most entertaining of the Animal Trilogy, thanks in no small part to Mimsy Farmer, who is always fun to watch).

I"m a bit worried about how another Mothers film might turn out, hopefully it won't be a dud, and will recapture some of the magic of the other films.

At long last, got my Sleepless DVD, and love it - very good film, it references, in one way or another, every single film Argento has made. There are so many references in every aspect of the film (music, editing, photography, script, acting), its one that will hold up to repeated viewings over the years.

Glad you liked it! The score's fantastic, isn't it?

Yeah, the problem with Argento doing the third Mother film, is that it's got a hell of a lot to live up to, seeing as how the other two are both in my top ten fave films of all time. I just hope he really gets the budget & the freedom to be able to do it properly.

Regarding the 4 Flies DVD...don't get your hopes up too much just yet. Apparently Claudio Argento has said that he'll take Dragon to court if they release it, because Paramount are the only people who have the rights anywhere in the world. Also, talking to Nick (DarkDreams webmaster) at the fest last weekend, it seems that they don't in fact have a print of the film yet. And, Paramount did run a thing on some forum asking people what they would like to be released from a big list of relatively obscure films, including 4 Flies. There was huge support for the film, but since then everything else on that list has been announced except for 4 Flies. So don't keep your breath held for it just yet...

    Well, buggers then!
Guess I need to pay more attention...I'm sure there are 1000 Argento fans to every 1 of us(film music fans), so 4 Flies will happen before we're lowered into the grave, eh Pete?

Yes, a new Mothers film does have a lot to live up to, but if it's done in a retro-fashion, which I could see Argento doing, it would be good. If he hauled some of those great old Italian guys like Vincenzo Tomassi, Luigi Kuveiller, or hell even efx man Gianetto DiRossi out of retirement(if they're still alive and kicking), now THAT would be a party!

Speaking of the Goblin, Mark The Cockroach disc is a good one! I was nervous about it, being a funky, conceptual vocal ridden thing, and while the vocals aren't great, the music is VERY strong here. This thing is going to rival my other fave, Roller, before long. If you don't have it, trust me, you'll love it! The new Cinevox disc has some interactive junk that I can't run on it, videos and interviews

NP: Thirst(May) Like I said elsewhere, highly recommended offbeat choral/orchestral 70's horror, something the readers of this invincible thread would surely love! Got BloodMoon as well, wasn't as taken by that one (too much quirky love theme that suddenly moves into atonality, and too much synth..it's ok, just not great) - Thirst is a real gem from the sorely missed, unique Brian May. 1m1's 41min. album is terrific, just the right length and with a fun action/choral finale.

Mark the Cockroach, eh? Hmmm, will have to look into that one.

Anyway, just found this new set report from Il Cartaio with pictures. It sounds pretty damned exciting!

And apparently Simonetti has already completed his score.
