Dramatic Scene: Journey to the Line (Thin Red Line, Zimmer)

Err, what's the difference in your definition between action and dramatic? Surely Duel of the Fates is an action scene?
Anyway, off the top of my head:

Action: Retreat (Blue Max) or End of a Dream (Total Recall) both Goldsmith

Sad: maybe Adagio (Alien3 - Goldenthal) or The Field of the Dead (I think that's what it's called, I can't remember off the top of my head) from Alexander Nevsky - Prokofiev.

Dramatic: Not really sure of the category. Maybe of the top of my head something like Rescued (The Edge) or First Contact (ST:FC), both Goldsmith.

Character: Papillon (Goldsmith - if that counts as it's also the main theme. Also Rudy, or It's a long road - First Blood)

Main Theme: Gremlins (probably in the Gremlins 2 arrangement).

Of course, if you asked me tomorrow, I'd probably say something completely different...

    Action scene: Much too hard.

Dramatic scene: The Thin Red Line - Journey to the Line (Hans Zimmer)

Sad scene: Land Before Time - Whispering Winds (James Horner)

Main Theme: Crimson TIde (Hans Zimmer)

Character: Rudy (Goldsmith) I guess, can't think of too many of these.

By the way, I'd hardly put "Am I Not Merciful" in the action department. It's my favorite piece on Gladiator, and it's much too serious and slow to be considered action of any sort. Also, "Escape" from The Patriot trailer is actually from Plunkett and Macleane, composed by Craig Armstrong... Also, I'd have a hard time classifying that as dramatic. It's moving, yes... But more of an action piece nonetheless.

NP: Legends of the Fall (James Horner) *****/***** ... one of the few scores that truly deserves a 5.

    Nice thread.

Action Scene - Last 15 minutes of ET

Sad Scene - 'Execution' from Anna & the King

Dramatic Scene - 'Journey to the Line' as mentioned above, but 'Breakout' from Dinosaur is still in my head.

Character Scene - Imperial March hands down

    Main Theme - too many.....

At first I thought it was by Craig Armstrong but I searched for Escape and on a certain program that starts with an N all that came up was escape by John Williams, so I thought it was him who did it. Then again, it says The Crimson Tide theme is done by John Willaims on some of them as well.

Yeah. Williams seems to be so popular that people who don't know who composed a specific score sometimes seem to assume it must have been him.

Thousands. Too many to list one or two. Sorry. I have hundreds of favorite cues by Goldsmith, North, Rozsa, Poledouris, and hundreds of others. Just too many. John.

Action is too hard to decide.
I love so many Williams pieces, but I also really love Miklos Rozsa's action music.

if you want a great action piece, get Ivanhoe from Intrada and crank up track 16. maybe it's 15...oh well.

I hate these threads because I always forget things and find it too hard to think, yet, am compelled to answer.

Sad scene: Journey to the Line - TRL
    Dramatic scene: All of "Magnolia"
Character theme: Logan & Rogue - X Men
    Main theme: Total Recall

I second that "Rocket away" track from The Rock. It's the best piece on the CD, a lovely action score that eventually builds up to a fantastic climax.

Action: Where do I start? Let's see.
Kaboom!!! - The Hunt For Red October
    1SQ - Crimson Tide
    Burn It All - Backdraft
Batman To The Rescue - Take a wild guess...

    Character theme
No question - "The Force Theme" Star Wars

Sad Scene Music (also qualifies as most dramatic)
    "Goodbye" - E.T.

    Love Theme
Love Theme from Superman - concert version, best piece of music John Williams ever wrote for two characters ever, IMHO.
