Hi, guys. Here's some info about some new releases on the Super Tracks label.

BATTLE OF THE PLANETS Soundtrack on CD music by Hoyt Curtin and Bob
Sakuma. This album is the orchestral score the very popular 1970&1980 cartoon brought to the US by Sandy Frank. Who can forget that
fantastic main title theme? It's on here! Battle of the Planets starred
the voice talent of Casey Kasem, Alan Young and Keye Luke. In Japan, the
series is known as GATCHAMAN and in Europe as G-FORCE. Hoyt Curtin has
brought us some of the most memorable cartoon themes ever. He composed
almost all the Hanna-Barberra cartoon series' themes, including The
Flintstones, The Jetsons, Yogi Bear, Jonny Quest and many others. This
is the first time the music from the American series has been available.
This album also contains the music composed for the Japanese series
composed by Bob Sakuma. The Japanese music was also used in the US
version of the show in conjunction with the new music composed by Hoyt
Curtin. This CD runs approx. 75 minutes. Catalog Number: STCD-603

SCARY MOVIE the Score on CD music by David Kitay Brought to you by
Super Tracks Music Group is the orchestral score album to the
blockbuster horror spoof film SCARY MOVIE. As does the movie, this score spoofs some of Hollywood's most famous horror scores. This score was composed by David Kitay. Catalog Number: STCD-886

THE ADVENTURES OF ROCKY & BULLWINKLE music by Mark Mothersbaugh. This is a limited edition promotional CD containing the orchestral score to the 1999 film starring Rene Russo, Jason Alexander, Randy Quaid, Janeane
Garofalo, John Goodman, Whoopi Goldberg and Robert De Niro. This score was composed by Mark Motherbaugh, lead singer in the popular 1980's group DEVO. The original "Rocky and Bullwinkle" theme is used throughout
    this score. Catalog Number: MMCD-01

I'm interested in some of those SuperTracks CDs (Heavy Metal 2000 and Rocky and Bullwinkle) but you guys never have sound clips or anything so theres no telling what I'd be getting after buying those overpriced CDs!

    Overpriced? Man, it's $20.

Rocky & Bullwinkle is a fun score. Some of the more actiony stuff reminds me somewhat of McNeely's Avengers (same type of synthbeat percussion). All kinds of little musical references, too.

One thing, though. I thought the name of his publishing company (oh, go back and read this from the start with Comic Book Guy's voice) was Mutato. Of course, I don't have the CD down here, but it's spelled wrong. Not complaining.

Tim, because there are no sound clips, this is where you step out of your square and trust what Shaun says. Shaun has IMPECCABLE taste - and if he likes it, it should be good enough for anyone.

That's frightening. Rocky & Bullwinkle isn't for everyone, but I think it's A-OK. A very spirited listen. Love the insert picture of Mothersbaugh as well.

Fine, Shaun! Don't take that as a compliment! LOL. So much for THOSE brownie points...

No, thanks for the compliment, Jeron. I'm just shying away from "get it because I say so" because TimT and I don't agree on much of anything. Actually, maybe that sums it up. I like Rocky & Bullwinkle, so maybe you won't.

YES!! So I DO get the points. That's all I'm concerned about.

About Tim: Tim has good taste in music... it's just different than yours and mine. Not to say you were knocking his tastes ('cause you weren't, but still...). Of course, as far as I'm concerned, my tastes typically coincide with yours - and you and I are obviously going to agree on the fact that anything we listen to is "the shiznit." Sooo, with that in mind, I forgot what point I was trying to make, so I'll just shut up now.

    Jeron

NP- The Man in the Moon (JNH) - which TIM recommended to me looong ago! I just got it in the mail today. Thanks Tim!

All right, Jeron, you take the blame if TimT would happen to get Rocky & Bullwinkle and hate it.

Well does it sounds like mature music? I mean Does it sounds like there was a serious (not too serious) approach the score?
I mean its not kiddie cartoon stuff? Like Second Jungle Book, and Space Jam?

The truth be told even when I was very young I hated the Rocky and Bullwinkle cartoon!
I grew up on Voltron and Thunder Cats (Hoooo!)

    BTW,
Isn't Scary Movie only like 24 min long? I wonder if BMikeJ remembered to forget to mention that.

I'll mention it for him. Scary Movie is short, but that's why it's $15 and not $20. Didn't think much of the score, but the track titles sure are funny!

I haven't heard The Second Jungle Book, but if you think Space Jam was "mature", this is just like it. Like I've been saying, it sounds like McNeely's Avengers (I haven't listened to Avengers in a while, but I believe the track that Mothersbaugh's score reminds me of is track 8, "Flight Of The Mechanical Bees."

Tim, I'm absolutely flattered by your attempts to turn Pete's fine board into rec.arts.movie.music. Instead of wondering why this particular disc is so short, why don't you go out and rent the movie? Not only will you discover what the music sounds like but you will also learn that the score is very short.

For the record I thought SCARY MOVIE was 26mins!

I dont own a note by Dave Kitay, but its a good score, like Scream Lite...and since its a comedy and a short movie ( 88 mins) it didnt need a hell of a lot of score.

Whats there is not bad though!
And the last thing is that there are tons of songs....shocker!

Excellent. Now, how about a release for the score from 'The Transformers', by Johnny Douglas & Robert J. Walsh?

Rocky and Bullwinkle - People didn't give this film a chance...they didn't even attempt to give it a chance. Mark Mothersbaugh's music was terrific, though. The highlight of the score (as heard in the film) was the music when Fearless Leader was spoofing "Taxi Driver" (that was one of the highlights of the film for me).

Scary Movie - Not unlike David Newman, John Morris, Richard Gibbs, Miles Goodman and Mr. Mothersbaugh to name a few, David Kitay is a composer who is unfairly represented on CD.
At only 26 minutes, I expected the CD to be sold for a reasonable price. I would have loved to see the CD padded out with some other Kitay scores: Problem Child 2, Look Who's Talking Too and Dude, Where's My Car? (complete with choir!).

Battle of the Planets/G-Force - I've never seen this show and, although it's Hoyt Curtin, I couldn't care less about the music.

In the spirit of anime music, it would be very nice if Seikou Nagaoka's complete scores from "Tenchi Muyo" and "Tenchi Universe" were released (the music - all of it, I believe - was released on pricey and incredibly hard-to-find import CDs, and it's all on synthesizers anyway, so that wouldn't be too hard.

    Just my two cents.

    There. How's that?

SBD, the disc is $14.99. Isn't that a reasonable price?
