Two soundtracks which I want to buy:
1.Ride with the devil
2.Bounce(score)
I've heard that there are many fiddle/banjo pieces on the first cd ,as well as some pretty bombastic action cues.
My question:Are the action cues any good ?In which style are they written?(any other action cues of other composers which are similar?)
2.Bounce is a small score, I know. But if it has nice melodies I' m willing to buy it .
Does it have beautiful melodies?
Opinions please.

I've been curious about Ride with the Devil. The problem is I'm not sure how much that fiddle/banjo music balances with the orchestral music. I mean I don't want to wind up with some country music CD!

I'd recommend both scores!Don't worry, Ride With The Devil isn't country music. The fiddle music is woven into the orchestral music, but doesn't dominate it. The action cues are grand and ferocious - very exciting. Imagine Carter Burwell doing big, big action as well as the Americana stuff, that's what it's like...
Bounce is only thirty mins, and it's very beautiful. It has several romantic themes that stick in your head after you've finished listening. Modern electronics (drum loops, etc) are added to the orchestral stuff. It's quite small scale and catchy and I really liked it...

second that, on Ride With the Devil.
you do get a good dose of western/hillbilly music, but this is more than overwhelmed by the awesome action cues.

Ride With The Devil was one of my favorite scores of '99 (also one of my favorite movies). There is a lot of dimension to the music; it's beautifully written and highly recommended!

you want some interesting music, check out Exotica. The film's weird as hell, but the music is intriguing.not likely to be liked by the masses.
not at all like Ride with the Devilposted 01-10-2001 01:29 PM PT (US)

Speaking of Mychael Danna, does anybody have a copy of his score to "The Ice Storm"? I've asked this before but had no luck. Anyway, I'd really like to get my hands on a copy of this score (be it CD-R or the actual promo).--Jason S.

I've only heard two Mychael Danna scores, both with the films, 8MM and THE SWEET HEREAFTER, and I have to say that although he is competent as a composer, I've never been sure he's actually scoring the same movie that we're supposed to be watching. I sense a certain lack of dramatic -- as opposed to compositional -- discipline.

it's hard to describe.
It's one of those "you have to be there" sort of things. So, you'll just havew to rent the movie and suffer through it.
