What's the deal with the James Bond scores?

I know that Living Daylights, Octopussy and For Your Eyes Only has been re-released.
Tomorrow Never Dies & The World Is Not Enough is quite new...

But what about the other ones, the older ones? Are they still in print? Are they going to be rereleased too?

    Thanks

    Peace

I believe they are tied up with legal issues. Eventually EMI plan to remaster and, perhaps, expand their own Bond catalogue.

Sir Sorrows, all the old Bond scores are still readily available from old EMI Records cd-issues. I've got them all (picked a vast majority of them up in Las Vegas at Caesar's, actually).

    Dr. No (1962)
    From Russia with Love (1963)
    Goldfinger (1964)
    Thunderball (1965)
    You Only Live Twice (1967)
On Her Majesty's Secret Service (1969)
    Diamonds are Forever (1971)
The Man with the Golden Gun (1974)
    Moonraker (1979)
    A View to a Kill (1985)

AVTAK is available as a import.

    Hope this helps!
    Jeron

Alot of the scores that Jeron mentioned above are actualy OOP. Though they were mass-produced and are available in many major record stores, such as Strawberries, Tower, Sam Goodie, etc etc, many other stores have pulled them. Your best bet is to sift through the budget bins. That's where I found most of mine. All the others you can get at internet retailers. A View to a Kill is the toughest one to come by because it is an import CD.

OK, yes, these discs are out of print. BUT, the vast majority of the older soundtracks available (any of them) are OOP as well. So I wouldn't rely on that as a sole decider as to it's availability (or lack there of).

I still see these discs all the time... especially places like Best Buy, Circuit City, etc. You can also purchase them here at Moviemusic.com. As far as the AVTAK import goes, well - the only reason it IS hard to find is because most people don't know where to look. AVTAK is actually quite easy to locate, and as a matter of fact, will be available here (for purchase) very soon. If you can't wait, check out Amazon.com. They have copies available for a little under $30 each. It's worth it, believe you me!

As far as the rest? Just be confident and just keep your eyes peeled. Virgin Megastores and Tower Records specialize in keeping these classics in stock... so if you can visit one of those, by all means go for it.

Yep, that's another thing. With the impending release of these expanded editions, you might not want to make a move on the older ones. I'm a James Bond FREAK - so I must own them (and do). I will buy the new ones, as well. But for most this isn't necessary. So I'd follow Timmer's advice... or, if you MUST possess them, get someone trustworthy like me to pick them up for you. You can send da cash and we will send da cds.

I keep running into the previous set of EMI CD's in the used bins, probably sold in anticipation of the delayed forthcoming new releases...

Agreed - AVTAK is a great listen. And as has been noted, the howling electric guitars don't take away from the actual orchestra very much at all. They work much better there, in fact, than in a lot of '90s scores.

As a big Bond fan, I'm certainly aching for an expanded Thunderball. Sure, "007" is brisk fun, but "Death of Largo" as heard on the 20th Anniversary Collector's edition - now that's a powerhouse cue!

The EMI discs (especially the earlier Bonds) sound horrible. Listen to the music from Goldfinger or Thunderball and compare it to the remasterings heard on the 30th Anniversary 2-disc set.

These discs are in serious need of a good remastering, and there is a lot of music that never made it to the records that should have.

And the new Bond song should be sung by SHIRLEY BASSEY.

BRING BACK SHIRLEY!!! BRING BACK SHIRLEY!!!

You guys act as if these message boards are the only thing at MovieMusic.com. Have many of you browsed the catalog of CDs here to buy? All of the Bond scores are here and available, including A View to A Kill. They been available from this site for a while now. MovieMusic lists AVTAK for less than most places, including Amazon.com.

If you need help figuring out how to browse the MovieMusic catalog, ask. Thanks.
