15 YA I was driving im my car listening to Dr. Demento on the radio when I heard an elctrifying piece of music that was called
POWERHOUSE. Apparently it was theme music for a late 30s/early 40s cartoon. It was so frustrating, I couldn't tape it nor was it too practical to stop my car to write down information. Do any of yopu know what this music is and where I might get a copy.
    TIA

You can get it in two forms (short and long versions) on Cartoon Network's big compilation CD. I don't remember the exact title. It has a faux TV-dinner on the cover. Go to their website, I'm sure you'll find it.

"Powerhouse" was composed by Raymond Scott and popularized by Carl Stalling in Warner Bros. cartoons. You can find some of his arrangements on the "Carl Stalling Project" CDs. The theme became immensely popular in cartoons, and is now the unofficial "anthem" for Cartoon Network.

John Williams was inspired by the string passage of "Powerhouse" for Temple of Doom's "Mine Car Chase."

James Horner COMPLETELY ripped "Powerhouse" off (although he made it very fun!) for "Honey, I Shrunk the Kids" ... and was sued for it! Hence, no soundtrack release!

Do check out that Cartoon Network CD. It's a lot of fun!
